My BMW will turn over, but will not run. Sprayed starting fluid in the throttle body and it tried to start. This leads me to believe I have a bad fuel pump or a bad relay. Problem is I don't know where either is located. Could someone please help?
The fuel pump is located under the back seat on the passenger side. You will find an access cover and will need to remove the screws. You should be able to listen for the pump while someone cranks the car. Also I believe there is a large green w/ blue trace wire and an equally large brown wire at the connector. Check for battery voltage across the two wires. The fuse for the pump should be in the fuse panel under the hood.
Just in case your vehicle is a 1992 525i and not the 1996 318i as listed by category, the fuel pump is in the trunk under the carpet and has an access cover held in place by a few screws. The pump has a connector, 2 fuel hoses and is held down with 10mm nuts. You can still check for battery voltage across the 2 big wires at the connector while cranking the car.
