1998 astro van, makes fast clicking noise won't start

Replaced starter about 1 month ago, believe solinoid was new on starter also. Worked last night, after good rain, won't start, just fast clicking noise

Thanks!!!!!! Cleaned the battery connection on the pos side and that took care of it. It didn't look that bad, but it must of been.

Thanks again, you saved me taking off the starter and solinoid to get it test.

Replace starter. Car has been running fine for last 2 weeks, however today car won't start. Battery ok. What's the likely problem?

Ronald,
When you replaced the starter, I assume you did disconnect the battery. Did you clean the posts before putting your battery cable back on? I replaced my battery a couple of months ago and did not clean them and my van ran fine for several days and then one day would not start. Cleaned the posts and cable ends and everything worked fine. Just a thought. Hope this helps!

OK, here's one that has everyone stumped. Backed into the driveway and turned my 98 Cherokee off. Keys in my pocket. Heard a loud noise like a leaf blower or shop vac. Thought it was my neighbor then...

it was probably the starter solinoid stuck.. Do you have a aftermarket alarm in it with a starter kill? or a remote start? Its possible to have a malfuntion and that was putting power to the solinoid. check the wires on the starter to make sure they are not melted, shorting power to the solinoid down there. (the small wire on the starter solinoid is the trigger, and should only get power when tring to start) if all that is good it is probably a bad starter. do you have an oil leak leaking onto the starter? oil leaks are very hard on starters.

Van will not start, just goes "chuk, chuk, chuk," when I turn key

you need to check for a bad conection at the battery cables. both ends Check the wires on the starter. clean the battery post. Give the battery a good charge you will be back on the road. hope this helps PS You can get the battery charged and tested free at auto-zone.

Maxima will not do anything but click once when I turn the key.

I have this problem right now also. Here is the deal as I see it. I have a 97 Saturn SC2 automatic (nuuf said!).
Against my intuition I let the guy at Autozone talk me into a battery, though I suspected the solinoid or the starter motor itself.
Put in the new batt and nothing but a single loud click. I took the new battery back and used the refund money to get a new starter.
I put it in and still just a loud click. I have cleaned the terminals and torqued the cable at the batt and starter.Because the solinoid clicks when I turn the key I am asuming (for now) that the ignition switch, neutral saftey switch and the "Startguard" (the little electric key you have to put in for your car to start) is good. In my knowlege, it has to be the main battery cable that runs from the battery to the starter. Next I'm gonna go out there and turn my key to the on position and connect a jumper cable from the battery directly to the starter solinoids high current side to confirm or bust my suspicion of the bad positive (red) battery cable. I will let you know how it goes.

1998 Astro Van Heater AC Blower only works on medium & Low

Yes, in high it bypasses the resistor and uses a high blower relay. But I think on 1998 Astro the High relay and the resistor are built together. It should be mounted in the blower box real close to the blower motor.

Starting problems

if this problem persists then you could check a few things on it, like on the times when its not even making a noise when trying to turn the key, use rubber/wooden object and tap the starter motor but not touching the contacts on the back. if this amkes it spring into life then it will be your starter motor if this does nothing then it will be a dodgy battery supply. does it also make like a screaching noise while trying to start? if so then definitely your starter motor
