My 1998 1.8 jerks when climbing hills, suddenly had high rerves... So I had it checked and the mechanic said the problem was with the curburator, so i changed it.. now the car is iddling funny, its not uniform ... it is as if something is stuck somewhere in the flow system and it is still jerking when I am climbing hills. The car switched off by itself when I am at stop signs or approaching a hump. What could be the problem? Max in East London

You have a Fuel Problem, Sounds like either he screwed up on the Rebuild, it needs to be adjusted or there is a a chance there is an Electrical Issue that has not been identified...

SOURCE: my car has a hard jerking when slowing (like exiting from the highway).

I have a 07 Passat and my car does this when I use plus gas too often (which was almost every fill up because gas is too high!!!). I brought my car to the dealership for the same problem and I was told to alternate the plus and premium gas to keep a balance. It's almost like a knock and then the car jerks hard after being sluggish. Try alternating between the plus and premium gas and see if that helps.

SOURCE: my car smokes and drives slowly, climbs hills very

Check Ebay for Turbo. Does sound like turbo has gone bad. It has what is called a fluid bearing which is oil that is pumped in and around the impeller shaft. when the seals burn out it will smoke terrible and reduce power. Hope this helps and have a good day.

SOURCE: my car keeps jerking even though i have changed

Dirty throttle body, obstructed air flow/intake, HT leads, check the gaps on the spark plugs too, if you haven't already.

My Nissan serena c25 2008 is losing power and at times jerking. Am forced to park switch off then on to continue with the journey. kindly help

SOLUTION.
I Had Nissan Serena C24 of 2000 with similar Problem of Loosing power after Long drive in Highway or climbing hills or during Hot Days..
The Catch is The Transmission Fluid gets high temperature and the pulley bands or chain of CVT Transmission fails to shift hence Car stalls.
Solution is to use The large Transmission Cooler to assist the Cooling.
Me I bought two Mitsubish pajero Oil coolers, went to mechanics fixed them in transmission cooling system in front and Add about 1L of Transmission Fluid And the Problem ended.

Transmission shifts sometimes hard at third gear. when the key is switched off and restarted, the gears picks normal except the third gear which jerks. suddenly the gear will jerk especially if you...

Have your error code read (if the CEL is coming on, there should be one stored in the computer). Some auto parts stores will plug in a reader and pull the code for free. Your transmission could be going bad or it could be as simple as a gear pressure/speed sensor wearing out (which is a relatively inexpensive fix), but the error code should help you figure out what's going on.

Hi I'm an owner of a 1998 Honda Oddysey. I would like know the mechanics of using its automatic gear transmissions and specific function. For example when do I use D3 or D2 etc... And how do I shift...

Hi,
Gear usage.
The Drive is for normal driving.
D2 is for hill/steep climbing drive.
D3 is for hill/steep going down drive.
If you have overdrive button, use it when you exceed 60mph.
That's all you have to do when you see roads that is going up nor down.

Thaks for asking FixYa!

My 1998 jeep grand cherokee 4.0 dont like to climd up hills it goes realy slow

SOUND LIKE TRANSMISSION NEED TRANSMISSION FLUID + FILTER CHANGE.THE FRONT BAND NEEDS ADJUSTING.ALSO CHECK YOUR THROTTLE SHIFT CABLE AT THE THROTTLE BODY ACCELERATOR LEVER MAKE SURE ITS NOT MISROUTED OR LOOSE AND CHECK THROTTLE CABLE ON SIDE TRANSMISSION SEE IF ITS BROKEN OUT THE TRANSMISSION. THAT WILL EFFECT UP SHIFTS OR OVER DRIVE YOU NEED THAT CLIMBING A HILL.

Engine raced with sudden loss of power climbing hill

Sounds like the transmission went south on you..(surge and power loss was the trans not sending power to the wheels, allowing the engine to freewheel as the cruise applied more power to try and maintain speed).Depending upon how high the rpm's went when it let go, it may have damaged the engine, but that remains to be determined...Your mechanic will likely concentrate on that before putting a transmission on a wounded engine. The one grain of hope in what you said is that it remained running while you had the a/c on waiting for a tow. Good Luck!!

High engine rev low

I would suggest an automatic transmission flush before I did anything else.

Jerking while driving

If you park your vehicle for a long time, you run the risk of having contaminated fuel in the tank. This happened to a car my wife purchased, and it was the last thing I found. It proved to be the problem. What you need to do is remove the fuel from the tank and then have the tank flushed. Fill it with fresh fuel and replace the fuel filter.
