Per your description, it sounds like you change the lock cylinder. That cylinder has a specific code associated with it. When you insert the key, the code is sent to the security system to verify it is the correct key and cylinder.
You will have to relearn the system to accept the new cylinder.
Insert the key and turn it to the run position. Leave the key on for 10 minutes, turn off the ignition and repeat 2 more cycles of 10 minutes each. This will relearn the new security code and you should be OK at that point.
Good luck and let me know.
Regards,

Looking for ignition switch in 93 gmc sierra

Tword the bottom of the steering colume. It will have a couple of connectors going to it and a couple of rods going to it from the igniton cylinder. IT is on top and not easy to get the bolts out of it. You will need to remove the close out pannel to even be able to see it.

98 Sierra 3/4ton 4x4 turbo wont start

When you turn the key to on, the dashlights have to come on and go off when you turn it to the starting position. Make sure you have a good battery first. No dash lights indicate a bad ignition switch. Check all fuses and relays. But I am pretty sure it is the ignition switch.
