Question about 1989 Ford F 150

1 Answer

1989 ford f-150 start but stalls out

Well here is the problem i truck will only run for about 2 mins then cut off its throwing code 87 for primary fuel pump circuit. Well i replace the fuel regulator, fuel filter, fuel select valve, FPR, main relay, check the inertia switch which is fine, i can hear fuel pumps working new wires new dizzy cap. im really stumped on whats wrong with it i hooked a fuel pressure tester too it and when i turn the key to the on pos. not starting it. It goes up to 43psi then goes back down to 40 psi then when i crank the engine it stays at 40 then slowly drops back down untill it cuts off, but when i turn the key back on to the on pos. it goes back up to forty. Now if i take the vaccum line off the regulator and start the engine its still runs the same and will cut off but the fuel pressure stays at 40 psi but will run and cut off the same im really stumped any help would be great any questions i havent answered please ask thanks.

    That is strange...

it is ive been leaning to a bad fuel pump but ive seen that people replaced the tps and map sensor and it worked for them it seems like everything on this truck can break and cause the same problem

  • brandon woolard Apr 09, 2013

ok so today i replaced the tps sensor it had 5 volts on the red wire which is gud .2 on the black which is the signal wire which its suppose to be .9 to 1.5volts and the green wire was suppose to be 11 to 12 volts but it only read .83 so im guess the ground for the tps is bad which the ecm does the ground so is that bad

You don't need me... Did you test it with the Key ON or OFF ? But you are right.. It does get it signal from the ECU.. Here is the Problem.. You need to determine if 12v Power is suppose to be present and at what times is it NOT? For example, If there is no Input from the Crankshaft Sensor in 2 seconds, does the 12v power go away?

  • brandon woolard Apr 09, 2013

well i have all data so i have the drection for the most part and it doesnt go away all the voltages stay the same and yes the key was on

  • brandon woolard Apr 09, 2013

o and the 12v is suppose to be present at all times

Hi, I believe you have a leaking injector(s). Check and/or replace. Good luck.

MY 1989 FORD BRONCO WILL START UP RUN FOR ABOUT 15 MIN THEN IT DIES IF YOU WAIT ABOUT A HOUR IT WILL START BACK BUT DOSE THE SAME THING

Have you figured out if you are lacking fuel or spark when it fails to start back up ? Lack of fuel could be a pump relay, lack of spark could be the ignition module or the EEC relay.

1989 ford f 150 stalls out after running for 10 to 15 min

Disconnect the IAC and set the idle to idle on its own.The reason I say this is the timing procedure deals with disconnecting the IAC to set timing, retest the fuel pressure.

87 F150 sputters and stalls after driving about 20 to 30 min.

Dual tanks sounds like one of them is letting air into the line. Had the same problem and when one tank was empty it would let air in to the line making the truck stall out and not start. Had to keep at least 1/2 tank in the one. Might want to change out the tank switch over.

Fuel cut off switch or inertia swith on passenger side kicker panel, it might have got accidently kicked while getting out.
