Question about 2001 Mercury Sable

Car will start when the engine is cold but not when heated.

I have a 2005 Mercury Sable LS, the car will start and run when the engine is cold, however, after the engine becomes heated and I turn the car off - it will not restart. I have to wait until the engine cools before it will start up again.

Also, if I try to restart the car it will start, however, after just a few seconds it dies.

I do intend to have the car repaired, I just do not want to be taken advantage of. If you have an idea of what the problem could be, I sure would appreciate the help. Thank you.

Car will start and run fine when cold but when hot it starts and dies. I pour water around the plastic on the top of the engine and it will start after 10 seconds. Have been advised it is thecrankcase position sensor and have ordered it from Autozone.

It sounds like a bad starter drawing on the car and once the starter gets hot then the selonoid will not work and if you have a remote starter on the car remove the fuse and try that to see if there is a short in the remote starter

sounds like ur blend air door motor,or cable is inop. u gonna need to remove glove box door to access this cable or motor,an try to actuate manually to see if u can get heat. mayb door motor,broken door hinge,no power to motor (faulty ac head) one of these should cover it an will help in fixing this issue

see if you can turn the fan by hand with the car not running. if so chek the temp switch. unplug it and start car fan should start rite away. if not chek fuses.

First, with the engine running, squeeze your upper rad hose to try and close it off for a few seconds. When you release it, if your water pump is functioning properly, you should feel a surge of coolant go through it. If that is okay, try loosening one of your heater hoses with the engine running, and see if you can get any air to come out. Sometimes... quite often, in fact, the heater core will become air locked and not allow any coolant into it.

Why does my 2001 Mercury Sable climate control only blow heat?

It could be the door that should be shuting off the heater core area is not shuting.The door works with engine vaccuum.The vac. comes from the intake manifold. With your car being a few years old, the heat from the engine may have caused the vac. hose to dry out and crack or become disconnected. With the engine cold and off, look under the hood. A small size vaccuum hose should be connected to the intake manifold and run inside the cabin area. This is one thing you can check. I hope this helps you.

hte fuel filter is underneath vehicle on pass side by the fuel tank, and the cabin filter is under the pass side cowl trim by the windshield

Yes, your sable has a thermostat, and it sounds like it needs to be replaced. Are u sure the temp gauge is broken? It may be that the thermostat is stuck open, which won't allow the engine to warm up, which in turn would show low engine temp. and result in no heat. Even the gas fumes could possibly be a result of the car running inefficiently due to running below operating temperature. So, replace the thermostat, and u may solve all your problems.
