Sometimes when i turn the key to lock the door all the locks go down and stay down. then most of the time i turn the key to lock all the doors and they all do down then pop back up and then it keeps doing that and i don't know what to do to make it work all the time is there a special sequence of things to do to set the locking code or something?
SOURCE: Central Locking not working
Hi Craig,
I'm running a E34 Tds Touring with a similar problem, my rear doors and tailgate have dropped of the central locking circuit.
I have been told it is the Central locking Module a large black box under the dash that is faulty, apparently a common problem.
Hope this points you in the right direction,

insert the key into the drivers side or passender side front door, twist the key and pull open on the handle at the same time and the door will open. It might take a few times to get it, but this does work, source BMW AG Munich.

The power door locks on my 1992 325i don'[t work. Using the key or when you depress any door lock they all lock and then 1s later they all unlock. It was intermittent for a while but now it happens all the time - it never locks and stays locked.
Any idea on diagnosing this one?
My locks are doing the same thing. I go for weeks not being able to open the back doors.
If you are using the door lock instead of the buttons on the key to lock your door, you need to turn the key slowly and gently and just far enough to lock/unlock. It probably won't help your problem but if you are not gentle turning the key, you will break the locking mechanism inside. It is made of fragile pot metal supposedly as an anti-theft precaution. I found out the hard way.
