SOURCE: 1985 Volvo 240 no fuel no spark

well first the fuel pump relay is bad, that is easily replaced. next you have no spark. the first thing you do is take the cap off the distributerand crank the engine. if it spins that tell syou thyat at least the tang or gear on the shaft of the distributor is ok and not broken. next thing is remove the #1 plug and use a 1/4 drive extension 6" long and turn the crank by hand until the #1 cylinder is top dead center(put the extension in the hole of head where the plug was and you should feel the top of the piston also make sure you can feel the top of the piston with half the extension this way you don't drop it in the cylinder with the piston at TDC(top dead center) the rotor of the distributor should be pointed at the #1 firing position. IF it does not that means your timing is off and you need to retime it by taking off timing cover and either replacing the belt/chain or gears. now if you do not have a distributor and you have a coil pack there could be only 2 things that won't give spark. either a bad coil or your altenater is bad(the battery is responsible for starting not running the vehicle like alot of people assume. the altenator energizes the coil which inturngives spark. hope this helps you please rate this thanks

SOURCE: car won't start

There is a recall on this model for problems with the Engine Control Module/Coil Pack. This causes the engine to not start. Take it to the nearest Saturn dealer and get it repaired free of charge. This problem can eventually burn up your catyletic converter which will lead to much more costly repairs. There are actually 3 recalls on this vehicle. Take it to the dealer and get it taken care of. It will be like driving a new car once the repairs have been made!

SOURCE: Ford Escort 1998 fuel pump not working.

good old ford lol, try looking at the crank sensor its located at the front of the engine tucked in right hand side of exhaust manifold and gearbox, two pin plug, i have also known these to have no end of faults with the fusebox.
easy to remove, and solder the connections inside they all suffer eventually, if your not to handy with cars i recommend taking to a auto electrician, easy if you know how. Good luck Davelee

SOURCE: fuel pump location 2001 pontiac grand am

The fuel pump is in the fuel tank.Sit in the car.....turn on the ignition switch to run.....listen very closely to the rear of the car...or have someone kneel down by the back wheel.....you should hear a "prime cycle"......the pump running for 2 or 3 seconds if the key was off for 15 seconds before trying this.If you hear silence you most likely need a fuel pump. Before pulling the tank down....check for power on the gray wire at the fuel tank connector just ahead of the rear axle under the car.Check for power with a test light that will last for 2 to 3 seconds as you turn on the key to run.Power means you really most likely need a pump.No power means you may need a fuse or a fuel pump relay.

Hi,I have a 1999 2,3i,5 cyl vw microbus. It battles to start and when it does it misfires and battle to rev up. New spark plugs, new distributor cap and rotor fitted.

1/. Check your coil fittings to rule anything from coil side of problem.
2/. Inside distributer there is what looks like a small mini coil this may new renewing not expensive Make sure you fit any new part carefully the same as the old fitting. Best Wishes, Malcolm Campbell.

How to bypass immobiliser on Volkswagen 2.3i 1998 microbus

on the Vw microbuses

immobilizer may not be the cause of no start and ripping one out without know all th ewires ti disconnect gets you a whole lot more issues

flat key fob or chip battery
possible fuel pump or spark issue

can you hear the in tank electric fuel pump pumping as you crank

you can go old school and check if you have fuel to the injectors and spark to the plugs as you crank

if the engine check light is on the engine computer will have fault codes showing you the cause of the no start

My vw 1996 volksbus/microbus 2.3i , it consumes a lot of fuel im confused don't know what's the cause

Not easy to diagnose without equipment, experience and numerous tests.
Possible: Low compression, valve timing or lash, ECU defect, stuck injectors, bad wiring or spark plugs, vacuum leak. Even fuel leak possible.

My 2001 VW Golf will not turn over when it is started or it will chug a couple of times and then stop. It seems to be more tempermental when the weather is rainy and/or damp. FYI...it has 102000 miles on...

It is tough to tell without looking at the engine, but I would recommend checking your spark plugs. If you hear a chugging, at least you know that your fuel pump is working. The gas sounds like it is not being ignited properly. Hope this helps!

I am working on a 76 v w bus.it is getting spark but it still wont fire.not even with starting fluid.after trying to start it several times the spark plug was still dry.the fuel line has gas in it but...

Have you ever actually had this engine running yourself, even if it was two years ago?

If it has been running, have you done work on the vehicle since then?

If there is starter fluid getting to the spark plugs & they are OK then it should kick, try replacing the spark plugs.

If the fuel is two years old, it is stale & needs to be replaced.

You should be able to hear the fuel pump run for a couple of seconds to prime the system when you turn the ignition on.

Let me know how you go
