Need a little more info: Is it a V-6? Does it just die at random times? Kia has had problems with crank shaft position sensors. The vehicle will just die and may restart immediately or take several minutes till it will restart.

SOURCE: 2001 kia sportage blower motor resister

Rule of thumb...unless you get a better answer:  look for a couple of wires on a small plate that is in the airflow of the fan on the heater/ac unit.  The resistor pack is always air cooled by the fan.

SOURCE: 2000 kia sportage ex, 4 cyl.

Many of the Kia sportages have a problem with the coils.

There are 2 coils for each 2 cyl and they are located under the middle platic cap on the valve cover.

These coils will set a check engine light that blinks when misfiring and stays on steady when the motor is running smooth. Autozone or Advance auto have a scanner that can check all engine functions and will show a problem with # 2 and 4 cyl.

The coil packs are $39.00 to replace but check the codes first

SOURCE: four wheel drive wont engage

I fought with this problem every year since I had the Sportage. And it was so frustrating to find out just when you really needed it, that you did not have 4-wheel drive. I replaced the hubs with manual hubs and I wish I would have done it at the beginning. They work great and are 100% reliable. Bottom line.. the vacuum hubs were a great idea that just plain did not work reliably. Save yourself alot of grief and money and just replace the hubs. Less than $200 including paying someone to put then on and I now can rely on my Sportage when I need it.

Cheq engine cod. p0440

EVAP emissions control malfunction. EVAP purge solenoid valve faulty.
Check the gas cap first. Try tightening your gas cap a few clicks or might have to buy a new gas cap.

And remember do not "top off" the gas tank when refueling. That seems to help not develop problems in the future.

You need to get a hold of the dealer to get the reset code. They will need your vehicle identification number. This code is sometimes there after a battery goes dead or is canged.

Spitting gas out

i think i can help you with that my sportage has done the same thing to me. but you ethier have air in ur gas tank due to not tighting the cap all the way and driving it on anyhting under than a full tank, and the second thing might be the little metal flap in the to of the tube may be bent or not sealing all the way.
