My headlights won't shut off on my 97 jeep grand cherokee. I have pulled the relay and they still stay on, don't think it is the switch because it still turns on and off the tail lights. Any ideas?

Maybe you 'pulled the relay that powers the other relay'.

Did / does this Jeep have the headlamps that stay on and are supposed to automatically cut off after 15-30 seconds? If so, that would be the circuit I'd check first. Something is obviously locked open, and I suspect it is another relay even closer to the headlamps themselves.

Best of luck,
Rob

My 1996 jeep cherokee headlamps turn off and on on 5 second intervals. what could be the solution

I'm going to post this in the clarification section. I don't have a wiring diagram for a 96 Grand Cherokee headlight circuit.
The 95 models used a circuit breaker built-into the headlight switch. The 97 models used a fuse in the fuse box. If your model uses the headlight circuit breaker, a short in one of the headlights or the wiring harness would trip the circuit breaker in the switch. You could unplug one headlight at a time to see if it continues to go on and off.

How to replace a relay switch for a 1999 jeep grand cherokee

The relay on our 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee was located behind the headlight on the passenger side of the vehicle. technicians at the Jeep dealership that you have to remove the bumper to get to it OR you can remove the headlight assembly and drill a hole large enough to get a socket and extension to the bolts on the relay..removed the headlight and drilled a 5/8" hole to get to the relay screws.
Why Jeep puts this relay in such a hard place to reach is beside me - - - other than perhaps they don't want it to be easily customer replaceable. Argh! Good luck.

Headlight wont turn offcole family racing

Only 2 things can cause this either the headlight switch or the headlight relay, chances are it's the switch,if you have a multimeter pull the relay out and probe the leads with the headlights in the off position you should only have power on 1 wire, with them on 2 wires are hot if this is the case then the relay is stuck,it's in the fuse box under the hood, another thing can cause this if the fog lights have been rewired to stay on even with highbeams on,power will feed back to the headlight circuit.
