Fuel gauge not reading right. It is reading full and not moving.

I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I filled up the gas tank and now the fuel gauge is not moving. Neither is the digital reading panel that tells how many miles until the gas tank is empty shows. Is there a fuse that is out or something in the fuel tank that causes the gauge not to read?

Sounds like your sending unit could be bad.

Sounds like float in the tank is sticking. You can try running a good fuel system cleaner like SeaFoam through it then replace fuel filter or pull sender/float assembly inspect/clean and/or replace. Some have access panels right above tank sender, others the tank needs to be dropped.

I have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4.0 inline 6 and i filled it up but now the gas gauge is reading way over full. And i been drivin it and it hasent moved. What could be making it do that?

Fuel gauges normally work off a float inside the tank, it may be that the float got jammed when the tank was over filled, as you drive it may free its self with the normal vibration of travel. Keep an eye on the distance you have gone and refill tank before you run out, but do not fill to top of tank this time.

I have a 1996 Grand Cherokee Jeep Truck I just purchased and the gas gauge is not working it's on empty even when fill it up!

Check the Fuel Sending Unit in the fuel pump. Disconnect the wire to the sending unit, at the tank, and ground it to the car frame. Turn the key to on and see if the fuel gauge goes to Full. If it does the gauge and wire are good and the problem is in the sending unit. If it's still on E the gauge is bad or the wire is open.

Keep us updated.

My 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo keeps stalling and bucking while driving and then will completely die when I come to a full stop. Also the gas gauge will be at 1/2 a tank then drop to E and come back...

Try openin the fuel tank filler. If there is suction vent system is blocked. There is a filter of sorts that vents to atmosphere but, due to emissions requirements, goes through a coelesant filter or something, The breather pipe is direcly behind the back wheel and therefore sucks in A LOT of dust that blocks the breather. This causes fuel starvation and collapse of tank.

98 Grand Cherokee 4whl drv 4.0 ltr. The fuel gauge works sometimes and other times it doesn't. You can shut the motor off and restart it and the fuel gauge will work for awhile sometimes but not everytime!

It sounds as if the sending unit (located in the tank) is wearing out
Does it work better at some capacities then at others if so the is the sending unit. I know I have seen some gauges read fine at nearly full to 3/4 tank, after which the gauge falls right to zero.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom

Gas Tank Leak?

I would look for a loose or ruptured fuel filler neck on the fuel tank, At the right height when 3/4 full

Fuel gauge

you either have a bad sending unit, which iit is in the fuel pump assembly in the tank or a hole in the float and it fills with gas and sinks, which it's also on the fuel pump assembly in the tank or a bad fuel gauge in the instrument cluster. it's more than likely a sending unit problem, jeeps are bad about the sending unit to quit working
