P0720 error on Ford F150 4R70W

Transmission does not engage without revving up engine unless O/D is off and is still sluggish or slipping. This is a 4R70W model transmission. Have replaced the transmission filter and fluid. Pan had a mild amount of metal shaving on magnet, little in the bottom of the pan and fluid looked good. Have replaced the upper and lower gaskets on the valve body while checking for the condition of the O/D solenoid retainer ring which is in great shape along with the rest of the valve body. Truck has ~82,000 miles on it.

That code is for the OSS,which is located on the back end of the tranny., but if you change it and the truck is still shifting bad ,speedo doesn't read, then you NEED to trace the harness that it is connected to and make sure the harness didn't burn through, or have a broken wire which was my problem.the code p0722 will tell you that there is no signal which is the indicator that your wire is broken somewhere down the line.I found my burnt wire on the top half where the whole wire harness connects I was able to pull up on the wire harness to find the piece of harness that was touching the motor that was causing it to melt and finally broke 1 wire that lead to the code p0720 and p0722, I put the wire back together and my truck was back to normal.

Hi!
Base on the information gaven it seems that your forward clutch pack is worn, thats the reason you have seen that metal shaving in the transmission pan.So get your transmission repair.

SOURCE: 1999 F250 only goes in reverse, no forward gears.

I believe that reverse is operated by a brake band. So it seems to be stuck. It is operated by a piston, and the seal could have swelled and caused too much friction. But you could loosen up the adjustor so that it is disengaged, in order to get forward gears again. Perhaps you can force the piston to retract as well, once you drop the pan again.

No error code trans not engaging with no warning

There could be many reasons relating to this problem. But inspect the cv joints at the transmission side. Inner joint of one of the cv joints may have slipped out of its position.

The error code is basically confirming what you have already found that the transmission is slipping, specifically that when the torque converter locks up on a gear that there is not a significant drop in engine revs i.e. slippage (the lack of engaged drive whilst the transmission is shifting between gears allows the engine to rev a little more freely and the sensor looks for the reduction on engine revving when a gear is engaged). First check the transmission fluid on the transmission dip stick; do this with the car running in 'park'. Firstly is reading 'full'? if not consider topping it up via the transmission dip stick tube. Secondly what does the fluid look like? It should be healthy pink, if brown and burnt smelling this indicates wear and old fluid and this will require a drain and replacement of transmission fluid along with the transmission filter. The torque converter clutch brake band has worn down or it may be that it can be adjusted to compensate for this wear. Adjusting such things should left to the specialists. If the car is still fresh from the dealer I would expect them to repair/fix the fault as a good will measure. This is purely a wear issue and not one due to abusive use of the car.

Car slipping in uphill acceleration is it my tires or something more is wrong with it?

Hi,
If the engine is revving but your not going forward then it sounds like your clutch is slipping if it is a manual, or the clutch packs are worn if it is an automatic transmission. Either way the clutch or transmission will need to be repaired or replaced. Hope this helps, let me know how you get on.

Sluggish acceleration with severe engine revving. Have changed plugs and ignition wiring recently. I'm thinking transmission, but hoping I'm wrong.

Do you have any check engine codes? If not...you probably do have a slipping tranny.

You can try a tranny additive like trans-medic and see if it helps minimize the slipping.....if not...it may be time to look for a new vehicle.

I would begin by replacing the filter if its not new, 2 possibility of issue, faulty shifting module or defective transmission rebuilt. just because it has been rebuilt does not mean the individual work on it did a good job. the less cost effective way is to locate used modulator from ebay or junk yard, if that does not rectified the issue than more likely it will be the tranny. the bad part is that I dont know of a company offer a bench test for the tranny modulator.

Transmission slams into drive after backing out of drive. also, has on several occasions, slipped when shifting and engine revved.

a sign of a worn transmission, slipping and shifting hard and not engaging in gears properly. you can try to flush your transmission out and refill with new fluid, that may help some. transmission on those car should be service every 75k. on average normal driving. if plan to replace the transmission, get it from a junk yard, its lots cheaper than getting it rebuilt.
