My alram system on my 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee keeps going off usally at night because it only goes off in cold weather and when I start it up in the morning the lights are flashing and the doors keep locking and unlocking there selfs. Right now I have to keep unhook the battery and hook it back up in the morning because when I deactiveate my alarm the lights wont go off. Any ideas how I can fix this?

It's not the battery the battery is brand new and alternator chargers the battery just fine the alram system is whats draining it.

It is late April and weather if pretty mild, but my alarm is going off twice a night, for no apparent reason. I also live in a gated community so my initial thought of someone breaking in is not the problem as this problem is happening continually. When I shut off the alarm by unlocking the vehicle with the FOB the lights stay on and I cannot shut them off. They shut off sometimes and other times stay on. Tonight after the alarm went off again, I left it unlocked and had no problem for the rest of the evening.  Im not sure if this is coincedental or not. I always start the engine the next morning and it powers up like a V8 should. Lights are not dull, very bright so thinking not the altenator. Hey, but what do I know....just an observant girl. Can anyone help with suggestions?? (Laredo) 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8

This happened to me recently with my 96 grand cherokee. the battery got drained by the alarm going off randomly at night. i pulled the fuse for the horn so at least my neighbors would only be bothered by flashing lights. then i couldn't jump the car because the alarm was still going off. i hooked my car to jump it to another car, and then i had to deactivate the alarm first by putting my key in the driver side door and unlocking the car. then i left it hooked to another car and still getting power but didn't jump it for at least 5 minutes in case the computer needed to reset. then it jumped fine. from what i've read online, this is a common problem that can be avoided if you stop using the power locks and always manually lock and unlock the doors with your key. its a little annoying, but apparently the power locks are connected to the alarm issue. hope the same works for you.

Have you had your battery load tested & charging system checked? I'm suspecting your battery is draining down during the night, and if a battery is getting weak, the cold really takes it toll on it. A load test will confirm if battery is weak & testing alternator for charging, will assure that the battery is, or is not getting charged as it should. Having both tested, shouldn't cost much, if not free, especially from a parts supplier that you are considering buying parts as needed from.

First I suggest scanned the fault codes stored there; turn the ignition key (without start engine) "on/off on/off on" and read odometer codes Pxxxx. Note this codes and send us for other details.

1996 Grand Cherokee keyless entry problem

That remote should not be able to  be programmed by you, it needs to be programmed by the dealer using their computer.  I know that some later and earlier models can be programmed by the user, but I did some research on this as i have a 96 as well and it seems the 96 was a dealer computer thing.  If you in fact bought the remote from the dealer they should be willing to program it for FREE.  Otherwise I was given a $30 estimate for the programming.
