1999 S10 Blazer 2WD 4.3L V6. Starts hard, idles rough.

1999 S10 Blazer 2WD 4.3L V6. Car starts hard then idles rough. Some black smoke from exhaust. At speed the car runs fine though it may run rough at a traffic light. The air filter is clean. I removed the air induction tube from the throttle body to get a look inside. I opened the throttle plate and noticed that it was wet on the back side. To my way of thinking this indicates an abundance of fuel at low engine speed. I don't know how this fuel injection system works other than it is the throttle-body type. Any suggestions besides shoving it over a cliff, which would be difficult here as it's quite flat?

You have a single injector under the intake plenum it has 6 branching fuel leads off of this.A very common problem is the regulator attached to this and it leak off fuel which falls into the intake .causing this problem. it needs to be replaced .i have done at least 80 of these in my career.this will fix your problem.thanks for choosing fix ya

SOURCE: Hard start, rough idle, some black smoke, engine service light on

A scan for trouble codes may point you in the right direction quickly, rather than hit & miss, with replacing parts. Some of the autoparts stores will scan for free, and your right where you need to be to get the right part at the same time.

I have a 1993 chevy s-10 blazer 2wd with a 4.3. vortec and it sometimes idles rough and when it does black smoke comes out of th exhaust i have changed the plugs wires rotor button and distirbutor cap and...

two things pop to mind with this truck, first these motors are notorious for having bad intake gaskets take a flashlight and look very carefully around the valley of your intake/block-head seal you'll possibly see either antifreeze leaking or a weird looking whitish or greenish sort of foam you can also use propane around the seal and look for obvious idle changes, I have done tons of these intakes in my shop, the other two things I would suspect if that looks fine are 02 sensors, or maf sensor.

Hard to start then black smoke out exhaust rough idle

Check the fuel pressure regulator. It may be bad. Pull off the vacuum hose to it and check for any sign of gas in the hose. A busted diaphragm in the regulator could let extra gas into the intake through the vacuum hose. The black smoke indicates it is getting too much gas-running rich.
