I had this same problem with my 2003 H2, my mechanic found that the fuel diaphragm was cracked and this was allowing my truck to flood. If it was a cold start, the extra fuel would evaporate and it would start fine. It actually got to the point where I would stall at a stop light or stop sign at idle. The part was is the neighborhood of $175.00 and about 1 hour of labor to install.

When it is cold out and I start the car in the morning and put the car into drive there is a hesitation for up to 5 or six seconds

In really cold parts of the country that is pretty normal. Your automatic transmission fluid needs a few seconds to expand and build pressure. Let the car warm up for a minute or so on those really cold mornings.

YES when its frosty you should start the engine at least 3 to 4 minutes before driving as,, as you drive all you are doing is driving towards the cold air and the radiator dosent get a chance to get warm so the temp will never reach its 90 so warm it up first and when the heaters warm or hot then so you will be...
AS you work better when warmer (yes) so dose your car

2006 H3 engine will not start periodically

It might be the Starter Safety Switch which prevents the car from starting while in gear. Try jiggling the shifter while in Park, or put it in Neutral and try it.
