Toyota starter problrm

96 Toyota t-100 (132k 4cyl) When turning key on- nothing happens - takes several tries to get stater to turn over engine. Also starter engages and will not disengage when engine starts and even when key is turned off & removed from switch - stater keeps running until battery cable is removed. This is intermitant problem. Could it be ignition switch, starter or solenoid? Also truck has an odd problem - parking lights come on by themselves when vehicle is parked & unattended - probably unrelated to starting issue.

Turn the key, nothing happens. no clicking from starter, do dashboard instruments light up. 1998 chevy s10 4cyl pickup

Did you check your battery voltage? Try to jump the vehicle with another vehicle that is running fine? It takes less battery power to light up bulbs in the dash than it does to crank your engine.

Toyota CAMRY 4CYL ,MOTOR OVERHEATED AND NOW WHEN I TURN IT OVER IT SOUNDS LIKE THE STARTER IS NOT Engaging

First thing to do is turn the engine manually using a wrench on the front of the crankshaft to ensure the engine will actually turn at least two full revolutions before asking an assistant to turn the key while you watch.

The engine might have seized and might be terminally damaged. You need to take investigation and rectification a step at a time.

Engine won't start turn

no crank
1: battery dead, not charged. does it jump crank?
2: bad battery (corroded clean em) cables lugs. (4 ends)
3: bad starter /solenoid, assembly
4: engine seized, (turn it by hand you cant?)
5: bad key line, (from key switch to PRNDL to stater , no connections)

jump start it, if passed test, battery bad/discharged , and if fail?
you then (battery is good)
hot wire the starter solenoid, keys in pockets
fail? yes, bad starter, seized engine. turn by hand , now you know.
if passes hot wire test, bad key line. (tiny wire)

easy huh?

Starter is loose

I don't understand what you are trying to say. If the key turns all the way to start and nothing happens, you probably have an ignition switch failure

Battery is OK. However, nothing happens when I turn the ignition key. Problem had been intermittent until today

A mechanic would check for voltage at the starter, the neutral safety switch, and the key switch.
Could be a dead spot in the starter. Do the warning lights work correctly ?

After turning the key several times the starter will engage

hi, If when you turn the key the engine dont turn over untill after a few tries usually it works sometimes then other times it takes several tries to get the engine to turn over.
This is a common problem and easily solved you need to get the starter motor replaced this isnt expensive to do and will only take couple of hours.
If you have never done one before then leave it to the experts ok.
Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Full power won't jump nothing happens when I turn the key

Sounds like the starter has failed. Have someone turn the ignition while you tap on the starter with a hammer. If it starts, that confirms starter. If it still doesn;t start, remove the stater and have it bench tested at a parts store.

1998 Toyota Corrolla VE 4dr makes loud "TACK" sound, will not start...

Sounds like you got a bad stater or the engine is locked up try to turn the crankshaft if it turn then tap the starter with a hammer while someone else turns the key to the start position if it then starts you have a bad starter.
