4 cyclinder dohc. When accellerating from a stop, as the rpm passes through 1000 to 1500 rpm, there is a rumble from the engine compartment. Above 1500 it goes away. It's not there while sitting idle at the stop either. Also, if you put the car in park and slowly rev the engine, the sound is not there. It only happens while the car is in drive and moving.

Don't think there's anything wrong with it. That's pretty normal for mine. If it's unusual behaviour for your car, check your coolant level. I almost ran mine dry last year and found in the days leading up to it that my idle revs were sitting around 2000 once the car heated up. If it turns out to be that I can give you some real handy tips for changing your coolant and flushing all the junk out. Much cheaper than a mechanic and good if you have a spare hour.

Clean the IAC. Disconnect throttle body air hose and you will see a hole on the bottom of the throttle body just before the butterfly valve. Spray throttle body cleaner down the IAC hole and then let it soak about 1/2 hour. Reconnect hose and run engine about a minute and then repeat this process 2 or more times. Toyota engines from 1997-2005 commonly have the IAC get cruded up with carbon as early as 35,000 miles. This is a sImple and cheap repair that many repair shops don't want you to know.
