SOURCE: what would cause slack in my timing chain

Not sure which engine this is,but if it has a chain,it most likely has a tensioner, either spring loaded or oil pressure fed.(if you dont see oil everywhere,it's probably spring loaded). These tensioners usually wear out before the chain breaks, but you'll want to replace both at the same time.If the engine was still running decent untill you shut it off, then there shouldn't be any other damage.

How do i take the slack out of my timing chain on my 98 Nissan 200sx? i already replaced the upper chain tensioner it was worn to the metal.

can't take the slack out of a stretched chained if you already replaced just the tensioner

did you also look at the other timing chain guides?!? they're plastic covered as well & will eventually wear out in time

Should ther be any lay in a timing chain in a 2006 chrsler 300

ther should be a little freeplay with a chain drive if it is too much though it could throw off the drive cogs , just like a cycle chain

Do i need to replace y timing chain at 100K miles on my 2007 RX 350?

No, timing chains can outlast the life of the car. Only a problem if it starts making noise from getting too much slack, or jumping timing.
But that will probably be after the next 100,000, or more.

Do you know how to fix timing chain

Timing chains cannot be fixed, only replaced if too much slack from wear. You will have to pull off the timing chain cover to investigate. If it does need replacing, put the engine at top dead center (tdc) of the compression stroke of number one cylinder-that is zero degrees on the timing scale. before you begin removing anything.

Timing chain the tension of the timing chan is broken

2.7L V6 engine? OK. is the chain broken or the tensioner not taking up
the slack? chain ok, just replace the tensioner, right side of engine, below
front of cylinder head. if it is the chain that broken, take it to a repair shop,
this will be and expensive fix, bent valves.

What milage do you replace the timing belt?

The chrysler 300 has a timing chain instead of a belt. There is no real scheduled replacement time
for the chain, unless the chain is bad or another repair requires the removal of the timing case cover.
And thats a fairly big job. Hope this helps.

1998 Chrysler Town Country 3.8L Does it Have Timing Belt Or Chain

your engine does have a timing chain, these are very durable, there is no set maintenence interval for them. you can tell how much chain slack you have by gabbing your crankshaft pulley with both hands and rotating it back and forth to feel the chain tightening, it should be a minimul amount of rotation. you should get well over 200k mi. of service without worry. i hope this answers your questions, or at least sets your mind at ease.
