Question about 1999 Ford Taurus

2 Answers

Hi, I have been here before and felt I got good resonse...basically agreeing with everything I was doing to fix the repeated Engine light coming on. So here we go for further diagnosis... RECAP: All the engine light alerts were for a cylinder one misfires. I went down the list and performed and replaced everything that supposedly could be done of this indication. Did plugs, wires, (car died..and had towed)...replaced Fuel pump and filter...light still came on...swithced wires on cylinders,...replaced fuel injector...coil. Finally, last time light showed misfires on 5 and 6. This time took into a Ford Dealer. They verified camshaft synchronizer off timing. removed and reset sychro timing as needed. Performed Koer self test and verified code cleared. Tech took for a drive...runs, idles nice...but he also found car hesitating upon acceleration. Took back to shop and performed fuel system test and found low fuel pressure (20psi). According to dealer proabalby fuel filter or pump... I just had those replaced??? What should I do? Can one check if filteror pump working...I think still wihin wuaranty...Getting only has 85,000 on it. Jim

Check for damaged or leaking fuel lines, also check fuel pump fitted correctly & pipe work not kinked causing low fuel flow, or it could be faulty fuel pressure regulator You may just be unlucky & it may be a faulty fuel pump, just because its new doesn't mean it can't be faulty

Did you check the fuel pressure regulator or you have a plugged fuel return line / fuel pump accumulator

SOURCE: engine code p0307 cylinder #7 misfire

It could be carbon deposits on valve seats keeping valves from totally closing. You can try getting you a can of motorcraft PM3 top end engine cleaner and get engine up to operating temp then remove one of the small vacuum lines from the intake and draw the contents of the can slowly into the engine. After you have drawn in the contents shut engine off and let it soak for about 45 minutes then crank it back up and let it run until it clears. Now it will smoke like a forrest fire while you are doing this so don't be alarmed, just tell the neighbors you are spraying for mosqitos. This may cure the problem. If not you may be looking at a valve job.
This can be verified with a compression test if this is what is causing it.

SOURCE: blinking engine light,cylinder 6 misfiring,sputtering , changed w

flashing light is missfire code. if all that is good, the coil pack is bad. or the signal to fire the coil. unless of course you have a distributor. then you might have a bad cap or rotor, igniton module or pick-up assembly.

SOURCE: 92 Ford F150 4.9L. starts good, idles rough, dies at slow speeds

4.9 litre ?? you having a laugh its a 10ton truck engine not a pick up -global warming machine, remove the pump/sender unit and check the gauze filter also look inside tank for a something floating around ,i think the idles is not a related problem to the vehicle losing power but their is a possibility you could have a problem with the little vac operated thing on the fuel injector line that allows the fuel through only when the engine is running

SOURCE: vehicle came in for check

A misfire at idle that smooths out at cruise is ALMOST ALWAYS caused by a vacuum leak. Take a hard look at your fuel trims at idle. If the Bank 2 Long Term Fuel Trim is more than + a couple points higher than the Bank 1 trim, your problem is most likely a vacuum leak. If the Fuel Trims even-out while holding the engine at 2000 RPM for about 20 seconds, then a vacuum leak is DEFINITELY your problem. I would suspect a leaking lower intake gasket leak because an upper plenum leak will normally affect all cylinders.

My 2000 Chrysler cirrus battery light came on when driving it felt like it lost some power also it shifted hard when put in drive would not go out of first gear lights dimmed wont start just clicks

One of your belts had snapped. Do not drive the vehicle, it might be the belt, which also drives the water pump and is responsible for coolant circulation. The reason the battery light came on is, that your alternator shared that belt with other accessories and as soon as it stopped spinning, the car lost the extra current used to charge the battery. Using battery only, without a working alternator, a modern car will only drive for 5-10 miles, because the battery has to take care of the ignition charging, fuel pump, lights, heat, blower, radio...

Hi i have 1999 Oldsmobile Alero i just bought it like a month ago the 1st 3 weeks it was fine..... but then i thought my tranny went out cuz it would want to go passed 20 mph but then i didnt drive it for...

The fan will not always be on it will only come on when the engine needs cooling then it will turn off and it will cycle this way on and off on and off this is normal dont worry if you dont see it on. When you turn the ac on this will turn on the fan while the ac is on and stay on till you turn off the ac this is also normal most people think the fan should be running all the time but its not like that. Dont believe me try this but just watch your temperature gauge it will go up a little hotter than normal turn your car on leave the ac off and just let it idle for about 20 to 30 min in that time you will hear the fan come on then turn off. If everything on your car works right then the fan should have came on and turned off dont let the temperature gauge get into the red zone. But as you watched your temp gauge it should have gotten a little hotter than normal but not in the danger zone and the fans should have came on. If you see it getting into the danger zone turn it off and have the problem fixed.

cylinder 2&3 misfiring, inspect plugs if ok, mark and swap coil packs for known good ones clear codes, run eng brake torque it rev to cause missfire, repeat until check eng, lite comes on, recheck codes if changed cylinders replace coil packs if not, you have two bad injectors.

Check engine light comes on every three weeks about.reads secondary injection air system. can you help?

With regards to the secondary Air Injection system, this is basically an inspect and replace broken hose detail.
Leave the inlet hose disconnected and start the engine. Listen and feel for exhaust hissing at the check valves. The check valve(s) will make like a gurgling sound as air is drawn in However , if exhaust is felt or heard replace the valve. Get a scanner and turn off the check engine light. Hope this works out for ya.

If there is spark and the sensor is in position and secure. There is a cold idle valve beneath the throttle body. It should repeatedly click as it actuates on and off.. Theory is it creates a controlled vacuum leak until the engine can carry ttself once warmed up.. Good Luck
