My audi 2001 A6 just had the oil changed but my "service light" is going on and says service in 100 miles. Did they forget to reset the computer?

  • mary_millan Feb 27, 2009

Thanks, the problem is that we did not get an owners manual when we purchased the car used.

  • mary_millan Feb 27, 2009

Thanks so much, I'll try it...

Yes, It sounds like they did not reset the maintenance reminder. refer to your owners manual for instructions on how to do so...
Chevy forgets to do that to mine just about every time!!!

    1. With the ignition key in the off position, push and hold the right
button under the speedometer. This is the button you use to reset the
    trip odometer also.
    2. Turn the ignition key to the on position,
but don't start the engine. Keep holding down the right button while
    you turn the key.
    3. Push the left button under the tachometer. Your service light should reset to say something like "Service in 10000 miles."

My 2001 Audi A6 displays service sign in the digital display when i start it and then it goes off. Do i need to be concerned about it.

this shouldnt be a problem, most cars will show something similar when started, this is usually for one of two reasons, its a test to let you know that all the lights and displays are working, and two when you first start your car, the computer doesnt see any oil pressure and momentarily turns on the check engine/ service light, but will go off when the computer gets a pressure reading. hope i was able to help!

2001 Audi A6 2.7T I was driving on the hwy, accelerated to pass a car, minutes later the oil warning light came on. The oil temp climbed from 220 to 240. A rapid ticking began to emanated from the engine....

VERY POSSIBLE THAT IT IS ONE OF THE TURBOS THAT IS GOING OUT. WILL HAPPEN IF POOR OIL SERVICE. ALSO CHANGE YOUR OIL WITH A SLIGHTLY THICKER OIL IF OVER 80,000. I OWN A 01 2.7T WITH 89,000 AND USE ROYAL PURPLE SYNTHETIC 20W-50

High fuel consumption

change o2 sensors every 60,000 miles and use iridium plugs they will outlast engine.
check engine light will not come on until sensors are completely shot, this also goes for your mass air flow, had same issues with 99 beetle happened at 80,000 miles, changed all three items ended up with 35mpg after getting 24mpg before fix.parts are cheap on ebay.

oil type is either 5W-30W or 10W-30W depending how cold your climate is, as far as having the car properly taken care of, the Audi dealer is the best option, they have all the proper tools and service info needed to keep the car in top running condition.
