May be you should make a diagnostic and you can do it in a garage or you can do it by yourself if you want to do it by yourself you need some tools and you can find some good ones here: spobd2.com

  2. On all wagon models:
    1. Position the fuel sender assembly upside down and install the coupler and coupler clamps to the inlet tube, but do not tighten at this time.
    2. Install the pump between the coupler and the mounting bracket, then tighten the clamps so that 5-8 teeth are engaged.
    3. Attach the positive lead (gray) to its positive terminal with the nut, then attach the negative lead (black) to the negative terminal.Always install a new filter when installing a new pump.
  3. Position the pump filter on the new pump and push the outer edge of the ferrule until it is fully seated.

SOURCE: Car takes a long time to start after parked for 8hrs or more

the older car usually need few pump and hold the gas pedal down to turn over. The timing on these car very critical. if you can try to time it to exact what the manufacture spec, change to a better plugs, change all of the filter as they need it. The other thing is make sure all of the vacumm hose at good, not cracked or leaking. that should make car run better but never is going to be as good as new.

SOURCE: 89 oldsmobile 98 won't start

If you suspect its a fuel problem best to do a fuel pressure test, you can rent a tester at auto zone and do it yourself. They also can show you how to use it and what pressure it should be. Also if you turn the key to on position you should hear a hum from the gas tank and then a click that is the pump running and the click is the relay, if you don't then the pump isent running, also chk. the fuse and relay, it could be as simple as a blowen fuse or a bad relay.

SOURCE: 2001 Oldsmobile Alero, Passlock 2

There have been alot of this type problem you describe. That body style of GM car has had meny ignition issues with the PASSLOCK 2 system. The system for some reason thought it was being stolen, and shut down. The security light might not blink or come on at all in some cases. It should but may not. (if there are issues with the BCM (Body Control Module) or ECM (engine Control Module) The Chime you heard may have been a security reset indicator notice. Thlling you that the Security System incountered a problem, and was ready again.

1989 Oldsmobile Regency 88 - stalls and sputters

Hi All your love, Lucky boy, The vehicle is fairly old and I suspect it has a points and condenser ignition system. Renew the points and replace the condenser. Set the gap to .45 mm and then set up the firing position by loosening the distributor locking base and setting it at 6 degrees before top dead center. I think it is not a fuel problem but instead, ignition timing. Regards John

If it was out of time, it wouldn't even be starting. If it did, it would dound awful with backfires. There are a few things you can check. But first, how long does it take to start? Is it always the same time? Is it overheating? Any signs of overheating? The engine may be getting to hot and cutting the motor off.

Car dies and it shiftsin to gear really hard

Sounds like you have a severe vacuum leak. Poor vacuum will cause the trans to shift hard, very hard, and will also cause driveability concerns. Check all of your vacuum lines make sure they are intact, and not broken or leaking, and replace any that look questionable.
