2000 Kia Sportage will not turn over...why

When I turned my car off and went to restart nothing would happen. Battery is fine, noticed a broken belt..Vbelt I suppose attatched to AC compressor. That is all fixed now but nothing will happen when I try to start the car. What could the problem be?

SOURCE: 1999 Kia Sportage: Issue with car starting

You may need a starter. My 99 Kia would get me places and would refuse to start. Someone hit the starter with a wrench and it started right up. I had to hit the starter to get my Kia to start until I replaced it.
Hope this helps.

00 KiA Sportage 4wd Locking Up on Turns

It sounds like your CV joints, on the outsides of the front axles, are binding up. You might end up having to replace them. A small piece of advise, drive about a mile or so once a month in 4WD, that will help prevent this from happening again.

No headlights

I found the connectoers to the headlights to be un weather proofed. I went to auto zone or advance auto to buy replacement connectoers, The replacement I bought had 3 wires, Black, Red, Green, and they have a rubber protective boot so as not to fail again. Turn off the car and disconnect your battery.
1. Pull the plug on the headlight
2. cut the wires
3. Black to black, blue w/red stripe to green, and blue to Red. I would use **** connecters with a heat shrink, or just tape really good with black electrical tape.
4. plug new connector in to headlight and test. Should be ok now.

2002 kia sportage stopped and would not restart while driving

If it wont turn over and all that happens is the starter makes noise, it could be an alternator issue. If your alternator is bad, then you battery wont recharge and eventually it wont have enough power to restart the engine.

2000 KIA Sportage

Living in Thailand I had a lot of stalling problems. It started with my engine not running smooth when driving away cold. After half a km or so the car would just die or after even a longer distance stalling at full speed. Restarting worked and mostly I could drive on. Sometimes it would stall in a traffic jam.

Checked everything, but could not really put 1 and 1 together until I noticed that I was loosing a little cooling liquid and kept refilling on a regular basis. Found that every time this problem occurred also the cooling liquid was low again. Refilling the liquid solved the problem till the cooling liquid/water was low again. After fixing the actual leaking hose the problem disapeared totally. Later when my radiator started leaking slightly the problem came back as before. Now the car is fitted with a new radiator no problems like this anymore for more then 1 year.
I think the engine management system of the KIA is very sensitive for low water and maybe the temperature changes coming with it.

Maybe worth checking?
