How to Change a Serpentine Belt on a Duramax
(By Christian Killian / eHow Contributor)

The Duramax diesel engine is a 6.6-liter engine used in the Chevy trucks with a production run from 2001 and is currently still in use. The serpentine belt drive system on the front of the engine turns all the accessories on the engine and has a spring-loaded tensioner to keep the belt tight. The engine has a reputation for durability and reliability as well as being a stout workhorse. Any home mechanic can change the belt in about an hour and save himself a costly repair bill from a repair shop.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You'll Need:
• Wrench set
• 1/2-inch drive breaker bar

Instructions:
1. Open the hood of your truck and locate the negative battery terminal on the battery. Remove the retaining bolt that secures the negative battery cable to the battery using a wrench, then remove
the cable. Set it aside for now.

2. Locate the tensioner on the front of the engine. It is on the passenger side front of the engine. There is a hole in the arm of the tensioner. This hole will accept a ½-inch drive breaker bar.
There is a small black pulley on the end of the arm, making it easier to identify.

3. Insert a ½-inch drive breaker bar in the hole on the tensioner and rotate the tensioner counterclockwise until the belt is loose. Remove the belt from the engine and discard it.
Slowly rotate the tensioner back to the home position and allow it to sit there while you install the new belt on all the pulleys except the tensioner pulley.

4. Rotate the tensioner counterclockwise, then install the belt onto the tensioner pulley. Slowly rotate the tensioner clockwise. Do not let it snap back or you will damage the tensioner.
Once the belt is tight, remove the breaker bar from the tensioner and out of the engine compartment.

5. Install the negative battery cable on the negative terminal of the battery, install the retaining bolt and tighten it with a wrench. Close the hood and drive as you normally would,
rechecking the belt in a few days.

Code P 0299 for 2008 dodge sprinter

This code pertains to the turbo housing resonator which makes the turbo quiet, but is leaking air. Normally, the part is broken into to 2 parts which are glued together. This is the source of the problem, the glue usually fails and this affects the turbo pressure which is usually needed in going uphill. The part can be bought from the dealer or check your after market supplier of this turbo model. On some European cars, this P0299 fault code can also mean that the waste gate solenoid actuator is defective. As such, it could cause turbo inactivity causing the engine to loose power. To check, test the wiring of the turbo waste gate solenoid and the vacuum supply to the actuator. If OK, the most common fix is to replace the waste gate solenoid.

2006 KJ Cherokee 2.8lt turbo diesel manual. When I accelerate engine surges then flat spot then surges again as it accelerates there is also a lot of black smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe

There is a waste gate on a turbo and that gate dumps the excess pressure in the manifold. There is a sensor that determines when the gate opens and closes. You need to run a diagnostic scan and see what the waste gate and sensors are doing.

Check egr valve system, check turbo boost solenoid, is it hot ? It should be war but not hot. Check turbo waste gate. Remove the black assy that hold the butterfly valves inside that the turbo air hoses connect onto to and make sure they work by sucking on the tubes to activate them, they are sring opened or closed and the engine vacuum system opens or closes them.
