Do you know anything about automotive electrical testing , viewing wiring diagrams an using a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter to test the circuits ? resistance in a circuit causes heat .Main cable to the fuse box . Testing using voltage drop is the way to find the problem . Learning how automotive electrical systems work is also a must if you want to fix electrical problems .

Electric Testing Techniques You Need to Know
There are no inline fuse for the cooling fans , relay an fuse in the under hood fuse / relay box. Viewing a wiring diagram to see what all is involved in the control of the cooling fans an testing is how to find the problem , more then likely the relay is bad . But without testing that would be a guess . Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free-tsb Enter vehicle info. Year , make , model an engine size . Under system click on engine , then under subsystem click on cooling fans . click the search button then the blue link .

Above is the diagram for a 4 cylinder. It appears that you might have a fusible link which looks like a regular wire instead of a regular fuse. If you have A/C on your car you can turn it on and this automatically should turn the cooling fan on. If I remember correctly these cars have problems with the Coolant temperature sensor located near the thermostat. It will have one yellow wire going to it. You can also try to swap the cooling fan relay with the horn relay or another relay that looks similar under the fuse block. There should be a diagram of the fuses and relays under the cover. Try with the engine off and key out try to turn the fan by hand. If it does not move freely the cooling fan motor is bad. Other than that you will have to bring to a shop to have the circuits tested... Good luck.

SOURCE: Radiator fan not working

The cheapest and direct solution is to run a hot wire to the fan motor that comes on with the ignition. It will run whenever the car is turned on. This does not "fix" the problem, but it will keep the car's engine alive.

Where are the ground connections in 2001 olds silhouette

There are too many to count.
Starting in about 1985, when cars & trucks began to have plastic and fibreglas parts, separate ground wires ran from every electrical part to the "universal" ground wires, that ran all over the vehicle.
Have a knowledgeable mechanic show you these.
God bless your efforts.

All of the electrical current distributed throughout this vehicle is directed through the standard equipment Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). The molded plastic TIPM housing is located in the left front corner of the engine compartment, just behind the air cleaner housing and the battery. The TIPM housing has a molded plastic cover. The TIPM cover is easily removed for service access and has a convenient fuse and relay layout label affixed to the inside surface of the cover to ensure proper component identification.

The TIPM housing is secured to the left inner fender well an indexing pin and one *****. All of the TIPM outputs are through the integral engine compartment wire harness.

No headlights or taillights on my 84chevy c 10 I

Check the body ground cable connection. I don't know exactly where it is on your model, but it's usually a wire from the battery ground cable harness with a ring connector on the end, bolted with a sheet metal screw to the radiator mounting panel at the front of the engine compartment. (Sometimes it is attached to a fender well at the side of the engine compartment near a fuse or relay box.) If it is necessary to remove rust from the sheet metal under the connection, coat the screw, terminal and surrounding sheet metal with sensor-safe silicone rubber after assembly. Also, cover the end of the screw on the other side of the sheet metal.

I havea1991 toyota corolla stationwagon that while i disconected the botom ignition harness that is located on the bottom of the key ignition , accidentally grounded the blue whire that has a red stripe ,...

The BLUE/RED wire from your ignition switch provides power to your cigarette lighter and your radio via the 15 Amp "CIG" fuse and the 7.5 Amp "RADIO" fuse in the fuse block under the left end of the dash in the kick panel.

However, this wire will not have any power with the ignition switch removed and therefore would not have been able to blow any fuses with the switch removed. The two fuses that the BLUE/RED wire go to will also not cause your engine to not start.

If your radio does not work and your engine does not start, you probably accidently grounded the WHITE wire. This is one of the TWO power wires going INTO the ignition switch. The other power wire is the BLACK/RED.
The WHITE wire gets power from the 40 Amp "AM1" fuse and the BLACK/RED wire gets power from the 30 Amp "AM2" fuse. Both of these fuses are located in the F.1 fusable link box in the engine compartment at the battery.

Turn signals and heater not working and car horn

Sounds like their are some blown fuses or a bad wiring harness going into the back of the fuse box which is a known problem with the Caravans. I have seen many of these that the fuse box has to be replace because of problems like this.It is usually the fuse box that is located on the inner fender on the drivers side in the engine compartment. It is caused by the place that they located the fuse box the shock towers or inner fenders wrought out on these vehicles and cause the water from rain and snow to sit under the computer and fuse box and it starts to corrod the wires leading into the computer and fuse box. This is a very common problem with all these vehicles.

My radiator fan is not working and I cannot find any of the relay fuses I have seen in other cars for this type of problem.

Follow the wiring back from the fan motor, the relay is often found at about the height of the bottom of the radiator on the inner fender. Check that connection is clean and free of corrosion. Check that the fan works by taking two trailing wires directly from the bettery terminals and connecting then to the fan motor directly. Use a voltmeter and check the voltage at the relay when engine is cold and shortly after the radiator top hose from the engine becomes hot (the coolant sensor should have signalled for the fan to switch on at this time). No voltage indicates a break in the circuit or faulty sensor. Voltage but no fan indicates faulty relay

My left high beam and right low beam do not work.

Dear garrejose: The 300ZX uses a 2 fuse system to operate the headlights. You can find some with fuses in the fuse box ans ome with fusible links. On the right hand inner fender of the engine compartment there are some fusible links just forward of the battery that are located in a black box which is right near the strut tower. Open the box and you will see red wires connected to a green connector at one end and the wires separate on the other end with female spade connectors. They wires may appear intact, but remove one wire at a time from the end which has the spade connector and pull it lightly like you are stretching the wire. If it stretches and breaks like it had been cut inside, the fuse has been blown. Do the same fp the other side. I believe there are two of these green fuses in this box along with one which has a larger black wire. You will also find on the right side of the engine compartment near the front, a black relay box with a bunch of relays in it.The Box cover is labeled as to the location of the headlight relay. Depending on the production date you will find the following relay.
Before 9/86 a 5 pin (blade) relay with a black plastic case made by Jidco, although you could find a yellow one made by Niles (Hiatchi) on some Z's. The part number for this relay is 25230-C996A
After 9/86 it is a 6 pin(blade) relay with a brown plastic case, made by Jiden or Jidco. The part number for this one is 25230-7996A. Next, on some headlight switches, they had two sets of points.
One set served each side of the car. DON'T forget to check the grounds! My son, best friend and I race Nissan 300Z's. You can see a little footage of our racing on Google Video, under "Flying Pigs racing, how we got there". Why the name? It will be explained in the video. My suggestions "Should solve your problem. OH! by the way, I hope you didn't miss the obviios>>>>>The head light bulb?
The harness? Iin my career as a Nissan tech, which spans back as far as 1968, I have found not a single 300ZX with a headlight problem related to the harness unless the car had been wrecked,
Good luck. PS: I am new to this site and looking for people to write back, if I have solved their problems, so I can improve my rating. Help me out if I have helped you. OK?

I have a 94 Geo Metro...and cant find out how to fix the cooling fan...had to staight wire it to the battery...what can I do to repair it back to normal?

94 Metros have a 'hidden' fuse in the power lead to the radiator's fan. There's a good chance it's blown. Look under the dashboard near the fusebox, but behind it (toward the firewall) in a completely separate fuse receptacle (not connected to the main fusebox). It should have a whitish color and a small plastic snap-on cap. Under the cap is a standard 30AMP fuse.

If that fuse isn't blown, then it might be the temperature sensor. You can test that by bridging the two wires that go to the sensor; if the fan comes on, the sensor is bad -MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT SENSOR FIRST!!!!

Lastly, if all else fails, it might be the fan solenoid which is a little black box located under the hood near the main fuse block. You'll need a wiring diagram or a little know-how to test it.
