Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1). OK, now tell me that again in plain English please.... let's break it down: the catalyst system being referred to is your three-way catalytic converter; so the catalytic converter is not working properly (i.e. it's not efficient). Bank 1 refers to the side of the engine which contains cylinder #1. On inline engines such as 4 & 5 cylinder engines, there is only one bank. So, to really simply things let's just say that the efficiency of the catalytic converter and/or exhaust pipe and/or O2 sensor is not so great. Hope this helps.

before doing anything make sure you have to code for your radio if you have the antilock radio feature!
disconnect the battery wait a few moments I can only give this info for a quick fix this will reset the computer and if it was just a glitch it should be fine after this should it reacour it is a oxygen sensor
That's a pretty RELIABLE code!... You have a bad CAT (Catalytic Converter). Trust it to be accurate. The conditions which set this code is when the Upstream O2 sensor's data/signal is compared to the Downstream sensor's data/signal... when they are nearly identical, that's when this code is set (unless you have an exhaust leak).. If there is an exhaust leak.. repair it, then retest/recheck.

9 times out of then this points to bad cat and the cat will need be changed.
Other things that can cause this code are an exhaust leak before the front 02 sensor or the car in need a of a tuneup badly. Generally if this problem is sensor related you would have other codes also.
If you want to know of the cat is bad the computer stores data and when you have a data scanner that can access MODE 6 the data can indicate whether your cat is the issue or not. Its a bummer you have to have this diagnosed by a professioal to get this data since the scanners do not get loaned out.
I have heard of alot of cats that were replaced for no reason because of other reasons so be cautious on how to address this because your not going to be able diagnose this without a data scanner and all the specifications for the sensors.

hi,my friend, you can try, Check for exhaust leaks at the manifold, pipes, catalytic converter. Repair as required. Use a scope to diagnose the oxygen sensor operation (Tip: The oxygen sensor in front of the catalytic converter normally has a fluctuating waveform. The waveform of the sensor behind the converter should be more steady). Inspect the downstream heated oxygen sensor (HO2), replace if necessary Replace the catalytic converter

It means the catalytic 02 sensor which is the catalytic monitor has activity, Catalytic due wear out due to age,Before you install a catalytic make sure the engine is in sound running conition
