1987 F150 302 ci. EFI, Automatic, Was running good. Next morning NOTHING! Wouldn't start or crank over? Just clicking and buzzing, Headlights OKAY. Tried jump starting... NO GOOD. Took battery in... Was told battery low/dead cell, won't hold full charge? Bought reconditioned battery...Installed it. Still NOTHING? This time head lights took seconds to turn on? First low, dim then build up to full bright, but on? Told bad Starter Selinoid. So I decided to take out Starter Motor just to check. Took in to test. Was told turns okay but not well? So bought a reconditioned Starter Motor and New Starter Selinoid... Installed both... STILL NOTHING! Head lights still turn on slow, dim, then take a few seconds to fully turn on bright? Tried to turn and crank on... NOTHING? Head lights and dash lights GO OFF each time I CRANK ON while trying to JUMP START, NOTHING? Both dash lights and head lights GO OFF each time I try to start while jump starting with reconditoned battery and reconditioned starter motor installed. NOTHING! Told reconditioned battery must also be low? Took it in to test. Told was low and they recharged it. Took and installed it. Tried to TURN ON... STILL NOTHING! JUST CLICKING AND BUZZING! NO CRANKING OR TURNING OVER! HEADLIGHTS AND DASH LIGHTS GO OFF WHEN TRYING TO TURN ON? Again tried to JUMP START with... Reconditioned Battery, Starter Motor and, New Selinoid installed. NOTHING! Just CLICKING, and BUZZING! Headlights and Dash lights GO OFF WHILE TRYING TO JUMP START! TOLD.... BAD BATTERY GROUND CABLE? Bought NEW BATTERY GROUND CABLE, Installed. Tried to START! NOTHING! Samething... Head and dash lights go off, this time... NO CLICKING, NOTHING! Now TOLD MANY THINGS! BAD RELAY? BAD IGNITION SWITCH? EVEN ENGINE MAY BE LOCKED UP/SEIZED UP? But I asked... If may engine is locked up/ seized up... What does that have to do with my dash and head lights turning on slowly, then dim, then light up bright without my trying to turn ignition on and crank stater motor and engine on at all? Just on with head light switch alone? So I do not think my engine is locked up or seized up. Why the stater won't turn or crank enine on at all? AND YES! I know ITS TIME TO CALL IN A REAL MECHANIC! BUT LET"S FACE IT! Why are we all on here? Sites like this one? Because we do not want to pay exhorbent, high mechanic or shop fee's and prices. Because we know and hope others have gone through or, experienced the same problems and may have solved, repaired and fixed the same problem/s? So besides being TOLD, ADVIZED TO GO TO, OR SEEK OUT A PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC OR SHOP. Can someone? Who has experienced this problem tell or say how they fixed or resolved this electrical starting problem? RICK,

Try over riding the starter relay on the fender ,it has one there right?. dont go to a mechanic yet. the engine aint seized. if it doesnt have this relay then i would get the alternator tested. if you want to test it yourself it can be costly for the right equip. autozone usually tests for free. i dont know were you live so if theres not an autozone. let me know if you cant get it tested.

it seems like you have a loose connection somwere the more i think about it. i would double check your elect connection at the starter, alternator, relay.(i dont know if you checked the relay) starter relay on the passenger side inner fender. It should be either a 3 wire or 4 wire relay. If you do have a relay on the fender, cross the 2 large terminals, if the starter engages then you need to replace that relay

I have a question about the reconditioned battery you bought. I'm thinking about doing the same thing to save a few bucks, but now I am getting conflicting info. Notwithstanding your long drawn out issue, would you recommend a reconditioned battery? A friend of a friend told me reconditioned batteries are as good as new batteries at half the cost. I googled it to find out where I can buy one, and that's when I found all this conflicting info. I am leaning towards buying reconditioned, but it has to be reliable, especially now that winter is on the way. I found many programs to recondition batteries myself, and I am interested in that too. I think I can even do it as a side business. If you bought a reconditioned battery then other people are doing too. Do you, or anyone reading this know anything about it? I would love an opinion on this battery reconditioning thing. That is just a review https://batteryreconditioningkit.com), but I see it everywhere. I am asking two things: Is it worth getting a reconditioned battery, and if so, is it worth doing as a side business for others?

2000 GMC Sierra 4.3 turns over but no fire?

fuses good< oops
scan the PCM see errors cranking OMG it tells you why:? sure can.
forgot the 6 new spark wire plug set, replaced 1 by one never all at once, 6 new OEM type spark plugs and gaped correctly
22 year old spark parts are no good ever.
test for spark on all 6 yet, spark is 1st or there can be no FIRE.

4.3L cranks but will not start and run and stay running.(problem1)
fire cant be seen, but spark can.
1,2,3 engine, spark, fuel good 1,2,3 in that order
spark and fuel can not run a dead engine, so 1 is first engine'
compression good 150psi up not lower, all near same
next is spark if EFI sees spark
actual fuel pressure not told just OKay. pressures matter big time in EFI, and at cranking for sure. then idle and WOT later.
engine is free running so all tests are safe, cranking too.
the service manual covers all fuel checks cranked, balance test and leak down tests.

98 Ford F150 w/4.6l Wont start. Hear fuel pump click. Have pressure on fuel rail. Pulled #1 plug from head and plugged back into wire. Grounded plug and cranked. No spark. Changed wires 4 and 7 four days...

have diagnostic codes checked to see if you have a cam or crank sensor fault. make sure fuel pressure is at the required pressure, just testing to see if you have fuel at the valve is not enough. replace all spark plug wires. if you replaced two then all are just as old and even when they "look good" does not qualify as "they are good". Replace coil pack. start up drive away happy

My 95 Nissan Pathfinder will not run over when the key is turned on. Out fo the blue, I tried to start and will not. I turned the headlights on to see if there is actually a drain on the elctrical...

THIS KINDA COMMON ON FORGEIN CARS AND TRUCKS , SOMETIMES YOULL HEAR A CLICK AND SOMETIMES NOTHING, THIS SOUNDS LIKE A BAD STARTER, IF YOU GET SOMEONE TO HOLD KEY IN THE CRANK POSTION WHILE YOU TAP STARTER WITH A HAMMER LIGHTLY IT MAY SPIN OVER , BUT THIS DOES SOUND LIKE A DEAD SPOT IN THE STARTER AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, GOOD LUCK.

We have a 1987 stanz, new battery, aleranter and replace one relay switch and both fuel filters. It will start and run(not good) you can drive it a little while and it will run good a minute then blog down...

1987 Nissan Stanza

you will need a repair manual
http://www.nicoclub.com/service-manual?fsm=Stanza/Sanza_1989_FSM

comes up as having both efi or carby what has yours got

if carby its a lot easier to bypass the faults to get it to run

will assume its EFI

EFI will be a problem if any wires have shorted
may have blow the large fuses in the engine bay giving power to the car

for both carby and EFI
pull the light fuses and relays out

check all fuses and relays in the engine bay cluster are not popped

starter relay and EFI ecu fuse are in the engine bay cluster

if the motor turns over
the fuel pump must be pumping fuel with pressure required to run the car to get fuel to the carby /or fuel rail and injectors
if you get that
only have to worry about spark
have you got a good coil arc and spark to all plugs

My 2004 pontiac grand prix gt wont start when i went to turn it on this morning to go to work nothing happened it just made a clicking noice. The guy at pep boys said that the battery was good. when i try...

if you turn headlights on and turn key to start do you hear clicking? if so starter is possibly bad, lets trouble shoot your problem.suggest you check the fuses under hood in black box, make sure those are good. when you turn the key, you should hear at least a click or else the starter is not drawing current.try turning the headlights on and at same time turn the key and try to start, if lights go dim the starter is drawing current, does it click? if so then bad starter. if no noise at all,,still could be a bad starter.suggest that you remove the starter and have it checked out.also make sure the car is in park for sure before you do any of this. hope this helps!!
