Diconect battery for 60 seconds. if it comes back on you have a problem. you dont need a scanner like Bogdan said ( he meant a reader) find your diognosis port under hood by brake booster ( says diognosis on lid) open it and find the T1 and E1 conections (diagram on it says what is what) take a paper clip bend it and jump t1 to e1 using clip. go in car turn key on but no start. count the ecm flashes short flash first digit long flash second digit. thats your code. look up code on google and that will tell u what to fix.

Your computer will store the fault code till it gets reset either by scan tool, or by operating the vehicle for at least 50 to 80 "good trips", trips that the ecm found no fault. It is possible there are other faults that the ecm has seen. OBDII systems cannot be erased like the older systems could be erased by the battery being disconnected.

Had car scanned codes PO601 came up 1x code Po420 came up twice. sum say the ECM going out
code p 0601refers to engine control module (ECM)--memory check--sum error=== causes --ECM
code p 0420 refers to cat converter system bank 1--efficiency below threshold===causes cat converter --wiring --- heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) in exhaust manifold before cat converter
At this point get a known good ECM unit and substitute it for the old one as all indications are a problem ECM unit

ABS light stays on - can you unsolder relay in ECM with common iron.
ABS light on did they check codes ? The light staying on an no codes is usually a insturment cluster problem not the EBCM - electronic brake control module . No relay in side the module , a transistor or diver as they call them . This transistor will supply a ground on a electrical circuit from the brake lamp driver module ,when it does this the brake lamp driver module ground a electrical circuit for the ABS light . If anything is bad causing the ABS light to stay on it would be the brake lamp driver module . Your best bet ,take it to a GM service dept.

ecm goes bad it will go in limp mode, vechicle will run poorly check engine light will stay on vechicle wont start.you need to use a code scanner check for ecm fault code, if check engine light not turning on when you start vechicle could have blowed ecm fuse or wiring problem, could have loose connection at ecm electrical connector or ecm getting poor ground but first check for a defective ecm using a code scanner.

if no codes you need to reset your ecm by turning your key to on position and turn on a/c then disconnect positive battery terminal, wait 30 sec. then turn key off and replace battery cable , Good luck. If stays on you have a code still in your ecm and need to have checked.

usually when this occurs (engine light) the ecm has detected some type of failure with one or components of the engine. ur gonna need to have a diagnostic scan done to determine the source. If the vehicle is OBD certified autozone part stores will do it for free. to be sure that its not just a minor "hickup" u can reset yous car's ecm urself by disconnecting the positive battery for 1 minute. if the engine light returns then i would have a diagnostic scan done.
