Coolant is to transfer heat from the block to the radiator by way of water pump. The over flow tank will go down when warm and return when cool

SOURCE: coolant dropping after every journey in 2000 xreg bmw 735i

You obviously have a leak somewhere. Check the radiator hoses and heater lines for seepage. It is passable you may have a head gasket problem. If you pull the plugs and see one white or a lot lighter than the rest it could be water ingestion in that cylinder. But check all the hoses first.

Hello I was wondering where im supposed to put water in my car. there is a place where it seems like water is missing but i want to make sure.

FIRST DON'T EVER PUT WATER INTO YOUR ENGINE OR ANY OF ITS COMPONENTS. What you looking at is the Coolant resivour and your low. buy some 50/50 prediluted coolant and fill to the COLD line if the engine is cold, HOT line if you just turned your car off. Also wait until your engine cools and check your Radiator to see if you have enough coolant. If not, fill coolant to the opening neck, SLOWLY squeeze the top radiator hose until the coolant starts to almost spill out. top off to the top of the neck again and run your engine for 15 minutes and then allow to cool and check the level again.

I have an 89 jetta where do I put the coolant and how much water with that

First buy the pre-diluted 50/50 coolant, no water and mesuring required. Looking directly in front of the engine, where your headlights are, you'll find your radiator. On top you'll see a metal cap with some warnings on it about not opening it when hot. so when your enging is cool carfully remove that cap and add 50/50 pre-diluted coolant( DO NOT ADD ANY WATER) until its right at the neck of the opening. Next slowly squeeze your top hose coming off the radiator and you should see one of two things, some bubbles or coolant spilling out. add more coolant to top off, close the cap on the radiator. Next find your Coolant resivour, you can find that by following the small hose coming of the neck of the radiator cap. and fill to the COLD line. Run your car at idle for 15 minutes, allow to cool for an hour and repeat entire process to properly top off.

My 2000 buick Lababre Limited just brought it two weeks ago and noticed the Det-coolant is very dirty and not in orange color so it must be past 2 year since anybody replaced it so i want to drain it then...

Place a catch all bowl or whatever you have under the vehicle, open the valve at the bottom of the radiator, and remove the radiator cap. Wait. There ought to be a lot of dribbling.

You can shake the car from side to side after the flow stops to try to slosh a little more out.

You can just live with the little amount that remains, or, you can close the valve, fill with water, run it for about 30 seconds, then drain that water, too, then close the valve.

Put in the amount of coolant recommended, then top of with water. For instance, if it recommends a 50/50 mix, and is said to hold 6 quarts, pit in 3 quarts of coolant, the top off with water. Replace the radiator cap.

What kind of coolant does a cadillac deville use?

If you have the Northstar engine do not use ordinary coolant (the green stuff). You must use a long life silicate free coolant.
Dexcool was the original coolant used but there are many other brands to choose from now. It is usually a red-ish or pink-ish color (yellow if you choose the Prestone brand).
To clarify, make sure it states LONG LIFE or 150,000 miles on the label but more importantly it MUST be SILICATE FREE.
Mix the coolant 50/50 preferably with distilled water but clean tap water is ok.

Replacing oil water etc

The yellow cap wit coolant on it should be the fill cap, the take should also have low and full lines on it. Most places int the states you should do a 50/50 mixture of coolant to water.

Flashing Red Temp light

This means your car is running too hot. After it cools down check the coolant level and top off as necessary, a 50/50 mix of water and coolant/antifreeze should be fine.

If it it blinks again it is one of two thing, the coolant level is low or the coolant temperature is too high, too high could be an improper water to coolant ratio, i.e. too much water.

Best of luck!
