I have the same truck I rebuilt, it, took 2 years. Its on car domain.com. heres the link.http://www.cardomain.com/id/Marine4x4

The problem is with the wire going to the starter, the relay telling the starter to work. it will get loose or caroded, check that first, it sounds like your problem. Good Luck!!

SOURCE: how to remove broken key in Ignition switch

If your key is magnetic and it is not jambed in there to much you may be able to get a magnet and pull it out. If it is stuck pretty bad you will have to take the steering column apart, but trying calling a lock smith first, he may be able to help.

How do you change the ignition switch on a 1986 nissan truck

not real familiar, but the way for most foreign cars from the 80's are to remove the plastic from around the steering column, look around the area of the lock for a small pin to press in. with the key in the ON position, press in the pin and pull the ignition out, without the key, it gets complicated and the lock must be drilled out, then turned without the key.

Cheapest way would be to really look for a locksmith that can either reproduce your original keys manually(handmade) or through machine that can regenerate your original keys otherwise you'll have to replace new sets of door keys locking mechanism and new set of ignition switch that may be adopted to your steering columns locking devices.

Changing ignition key switch

Well,

From what I remember you need to put the missing key in and then press the cylinder release, a small hole by the ignition switch. Without the key, I guess you would need a locksmith to turn the tumbler then press the switch. Lock pick set anyone?
