Power lock and dome light does not come on when door is opened.

Dodge Ram 2500 The back drivers side door has problem of speaker does not work, power lock does not work, dome light does not come on when that door opens, but power window works. The speaker is ok so I know input to it is not working. All other doors work fine.

I have the door panel off and I was looking at the wires in the rubber boot. Do you know if they plug into a module at the cab side? Thanks

  • Anonymous Feb 21, 2009

The door lock did work up until a few days ago but the other 2 conditions have been quite a while.

    All fixed. Thanks Nick.

I had the same problem with my 2005 dodge ram 3500 and found the wires were being pinched that run through the rubber boot on my right rear door. I had this fixed by dodge but there splice didn't last, so I took some 16ga wire and spliced it into the wire that operates the power door lock on that side and it fixed the problem. Dodge service shop did a sad job of splicing the wires back together by twisting the wires together and tape and wire broke.

Check the harness and wires that run in-between the door and the body. usually run inside a rubber boot. sounds like you have a few loose connections there. its a good place to start. also you can try taking the door panel off and check the wiring inside the door. if that also fails to fix your problem, i'd start by tracing the wires from that door to see if there is a short or open anywhere.

i'm not sure on the dodge trucks but if you can trace the wires from the door, into the truck and follow them, i'm sure you will find a module along the way. also if you can, get a test light on the harness to the door latch (the latch controls the locking and the dome light) see if you get any voltage going to it when you hit the unlock button. something tells me there is a loose connector or a few broken wires somewhere. the fact that the speaker is involved leads me to that decision. if it were a module itself all the speakers would be inop as with the other door locks etc..etc..

that would be a good indicator of broken wires then if the other 2 problems were there and now this one just came up, i bet there is a harness getting chafed somehere along the way.

Probably the switch on passenger side. Pull it out and test with 12v test light. If power in, and no power out, you found your problem.
