What would make the rear-window wiper/washer/intermittent buttons on the center console of my 1996 Dodge Caravan, flash constantly (while the van is on)? Once when I had to slam on the brakes, they went off and stayed off until I cranked the van again.

A/C module may need calibration, relay may be out, or climate related fuse may be blown. Check fuse first, it's easiest and simplest.
Then:
Calibration/Diagnostics Test Entry
Takes about 2 minutes to run, engine must be up to temperature (radiator fan should have kkcked on at least once)

1998 Dodge grand caravan .there is a module that needs reprogrammed, this happens all the time. How?

Put your controls all the way to cold(mine is all the way to left). Turn your blower switch all the way to High. Put the position to console vents(all the way left).Hold down top left button(rear wiper) and bottom left button(rear washer) at the same time until all lights are solid. Then release. Let the buttons flash until only top left(rear wiper) is flashing. Then press top left(rear wiper) to end test.Should help those pesky flashing lights unless there are deeper Problems!

Rear wiper, washer and 2 other buttons have little lights that will not stop blinking. I just bought the van and know absoulely nothing about it however a service tech. told me about a code that could be...

False. these flashing lights are telling that there is something wrong with that particular system. Could be no solvent in the washer, fuse, wiper motor bad, heated windows

Changed batteryand now the hvac lites are on

You need to recalibrate the climate control system.
  • Start the van.
  • Slide the temperature lever all the way to the left (full cold).
  • Turn the Mode Control to 'panel' (the one that sends air to your face only).
  • Turn the 'blower switch' to all the way to full.
  • Now go to the leftmost three buttons. Press and hold the top one (rear wiper on constant) and the bottom one (rear wiper washer fluid) until the lights come on solid then begin to flash, and then you can let go.
  • The AC will now calibrate. You will feel the air blow out of all the different zones at different intervals and see lights come on and go off. Then after a minute or two the top button you pressed will be slowly flashing. This means it has been completed.
  • Press the last flashing button and you are done.

Lights flashing on a/c and air recirulate buttons

Sounds like its gone into programming mode. All you need to do is start your van. (if you are unsure what knob or lever is which I am looking in the manual for proper terms) Then slide your temp lever all the way to the left (full cold). Then turn the Mode Control to 'panel' (the one that sends air to your face only). Then turn the 'blower switch' to all the way to full. Now go to the leftmost three buttons. Press the top one (rear wiper on constant) and the bottom one (rear wiper washer fluid). Hold these two for a few seconds. Once the lights come on solid then begin to flash you can let go. The AC will now calibrate. You will feel the air blow out of all the different zones at different intervals and see lights come on and go off. Then after a minute or two the top bottn you pressed will be slowly flashing. This means it has been completed (I actually let it run for 5 more minutes just in case something else started blinking). Press the last flashing button and you are done.
