I have a 1995 f350 with a 7.3 diesel with an automatic transmission that will stop shifting from 2nd to 3rd after it runs for about 25 to 30 miles or so stop shifting

Have them check the TCS (Temperature Control Sensor).

Check fuel flow and pressure , if pressure is low check fuel pump. if flow is low replace fuel filter.

It winds up in 1st and then shifts right from 1st into 3rd. Then never shifts into 4th. Plus rev is gone. You broke the sun shell. The transmission will need to rebuilt or replaced.

sorry but time to visit the transmission shop. the only thing you could try first is Lukas Transmission oil sold at parts stores one quart only. make sure you get the oil for transmissions and not the crankcase.

These Volvo 850 vehicles from the nineties have a poor reliability record and the automatic transmissions are prone to expensive problems.

I am afraid this vehicle, with over 200000 miles up, is well past its serviceable life and should be replaced soon. At this mileage you will experience many mechanical problems which will be costly to fix.

From what you have described the auto transmission is close to total failure and if you kept the car it would need to be replaced with a rebuilt transmission unit. This is very expensive and given the low market value of the vehicle, I am afraid it would cost more than the car is worth even if the car was in an operating condition.

Your only cost effective solution is to replace the car. Do not purchase a high mileage vehicle as you will be potentially buying a repair bill.

Preferably purchase a quality Japanese built used vehicle in good condition with low mileage and only after you have had a full mechanical check done before you pass any money to the vendor. You need to be satisfied with the overall condition of the car and be aware of any faults before purchase.
Finally, avoid European built used cars as they tend to become unreliable after only about 60000 miles and are typically quite expensive to repair and maintain.

Check the shift silonoid first

The transmission needs to have the filter and fluid replaced.

you need to replace clutch pack for that gear can be ordered seperately from parts store or dealer if you want to save money call peach street auto recycling at 1800-365-2341 for a warrantied used one! also might be time for change trans filter and fluid filter could be slightly clogged but I lean towards clutch pack I replace these alot on Hondas
