Question about 1996 Audi A6
How do you flush the radiator for a 1996 Audi A6 Quattro? There is no radiator cap, so can it be done through the reservoir tank? I've been having trouble with the thermostat cause the light keeps going on. I've added water and coolant as needed and checked the hoses. I thought by flushing the radiator, it may clear any blockage. I was told that by tapping the housing for the thermostat, that it may cause it to un-stick. I read that the thermostat is difficult to reach. I thought I'd give the flushing a try as well. The car overheated a month ago and has been off road since. Is there any hope of reviving the car without going through major expenses? Any suggestions?
Step 1:When the thermo..do not work,there is an easy way to know...let the car running for at least 10min..turn it off..touch upper and lower hoses...if any of them is hot and the other is cold...thermos..not working.
Step 2:check if fans activate when it reaches normal temperature, if they dont,replace fan switch at the botton of radiator,or check if the fans are burned.
Step 3:you can flush the radiator by the usual way,but it will not unclog any cell of radiator...you must send it for service... but before u do it..do the cheap and easy staff...by the way...that car operate with a different cooling system...thats a closed pressured...so changing the cap of the reservoir helps ...since it has some valves that goes broken when is not change...hope it helps...

It's the brake pedal switch. There is a switch down on the pedal arm that closes when you press the pedal down, and sends a sensing voltage to the controller, telling it the brakes are applied. This allows the transmission lock to disengage so you can shift out of Park. When that switch fails, the lock won't disengage. You need to replace that switch and you'll be fixed.

this is the valve that connects to the carbon cannister, try to clean out the whole throttle body, all breather pipes going to and from the throttle body and the purge valve ( carbon cannister )

you must drain air out of system
so when engine is warmed up, just unscrew slightly the thermo time switch which is the highest sensor and unit in cooling system besides the reservoir, until alittle air releases then when antifreeze starts coming out then retighten to specs. BE VERY CAREFUL !!!! LOOSEN VERY SLOWLY AND NOT COMPLETELY REMOVE FOR THIS CAN CAUSE BURNS. MIGHT WANT TO USE A RAG AROUND SENSOR. If this doesnt solve it then make sure you have the correct rad. cap. Also that the filling hose is not clogged as well as the little port on radiator.

If you have the 2.8L 30v V6, it's a very involved process that requires the teardown of the front of the engine to change it, as it's hidden behind a feeder panel under the timing covers. I'd recommend doing the full timing belt service at the same time to avoid duplicating the labor. A dealer charges $1100-1200 for parts and labor, and an independent shop likely around $800 (at least where I live). I do it for $600 parts and labor since I do it at my house in my garage, and don't have the overhead of a shop that I have to pay for. You didn't say what year the car is or what other diagnostics you've done lately...My guess is the radiator core is plugged...If you want to tackle it yourself, buy a Chiltons repair manual at AutoZone or NAPA stores ($25). I suspect you'll have to order the manual.
