SOURCE: What type transmission fluid? Synthetic Max ATF by Royal Purple?

If it has been in a flood, change it. Water will eat the valve body and pump gaskets. Even if it has been changed once, you won't get it all. Changing it a second time is a good idea. Use Dexron VI

You need to warm up the engine, pull out the dipstick, wipe it off and reinsert. Pull it out once again and look to make sure the fluid level is sitting between the marked areas on the dipstick.

92 gmc safari xt rear end

It's not a rear end problem. It's a transmission problem. Check your transmission fluid level and condition. If it's low try adding fluid until its full and try driving. If that doesn't fix it take your car to a good transmission reapir shop.

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

I strongly suggest that you replace the transmission fluid. If the fluid is burnt the transmission tends to be sluggish and finds it hard to shift gears. This will surely give great stress to the engine. Once the fluid is replaced, smooth drive and shifting will be noticeable.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

I have a 1992 gmc safari and the transmission wont shift into 2nd unless you manualy shift it and then wont shift into 3rd

Check the transmission pan for filings, clean out. Refill your transmission fluid. If this doesn't solve it, the gears have been ground down to far for a cheap repair.

If you're doing 60-70 in 2nd Low, your tranny is probably already shot.
