New battery but will hold charge for a month,without warming it will not start

Make sure the battery is good. U can charge it and disconnect it from car overnight and see if it works the next day. If it is still fine then the car has a drain. If no good, then the battery is bogus and cannot hold a charge.

U have something in wiring that is draining the battery after shutdown. Need an ammeter. Hook it up to the battery and wait about a half hour. Then notice draw on meter. Start removing fuses until you locate the line that is responsible for the draw. Then check out each and every item on that trunk line.

Probably. Over a few months a battery needs to have a float charge on it to expect it to start in the spring. I'd purchase a float charger (quite inexpensive) and hook it up whenever the vehicle is not run at least semi-monthly. Just storing a vehicle is not good. They should be driven, and fully warmed up, say about 10 miles or so, at least once a month. More frequently is better.

Had similar issue with my interpid....After much diagnostics the problem turned out to be main power wire to the fuse box..

just put a battery charger on it ,you do not have to remove the battery to charge it ,the positive terminal is the larger of the two battery terminals

check belt to alternator-if good check wiring and connections to battery and alternator if good than have battery and alternator tested most auto stores offer this service for free ur battery or alternator are not working correctly either alternator not charging or battery not holding charge

sounds like batterie. your local parts store(orielly) can test all 3 without having to remove them from your car.

the voltage regulator is going bad in the altenator

its the battery. the battery holds the charge and the alternator charges it so when you jump the car it stays running because you alternator is providing power when you shut the car off you have a bad battery that isnt holding the charge needed to start it again.

Thank you for clarifying. We still have options.

First, hold on to the receipt from that shop, but don't go back until we get you fixed.

Second, since a jump gets you going, it is either the battery not holding a charge or the alternator not providing one. Checking the belts is the first step. Are they tight?

Even new batteries can be bad off the shelf. Especially if they have been on that shelf for a while. They may show the voltage but not the amps. This is called a 'Surface Charge'.

Without a voltmeter, what you need to do now is visit an auto parts store (not a shop). Most (in the hope of making a sale) will provide free testing of batteries and charging systems.

Ask if they do this. What you need is called a "Load Test" on the battery. It simulates the load of an engine being started. This will confirm the battery is good or bad.

Then with the car running, they need to check the voltage to the battery (they will know this). If it's not above +13VDC, the alternator is bad or not connected correctly.

And if it doesn't start, what better place to be?

Sounds like your alternator is shot. Remove your alternator and take it into Advance Auto Parts store and they can do a test on it. Don't waste any more money on batteries until you get this checked.

Also, don't be fooled by some sellers. A rebuilt alternator is just as good as a new one.
