2004 Grand Vitara won't start

Cranks just fine, O/D light flashes on dash

I have the same year and the exact problem .cranks all day but won't fire up. we tried a little starting fluid and got a couple of pops but .thats's, not the deal the deal is when it goes into immobilizer mode, because our issue all started just because my buddy left the stereo on for like an hour, no big deal so while cranking it over wee just hooked up the charger and juiced up the battery .anyways how do you get it out of the immobilizer mode we tried disconnecting the battery for three hours, checked all the fuses under the hood they were fine so we checked the ones up under the dash on the driver side kick panel those were fine also. so bottom line ECU maybe everywhere we've researched there is no exact method and now it's our main mission to resolve this lame problem. when we get the answer we will post it so all can know this apparent secret method to get it up and running again .it was fine when we parked it it was running weird or anything .so just need the magic fix .stay tuned for the answer today is 6/5/22

Check what the battery reads while starter is running.Or you can turn on the headlights and try to start it to see if the headlights dim or go out.
If so then the battery is too weak or has bad connections at battery or at the engine ground or starter solenoid.

The trans only blocks cranking so we can ignore the overdrive lamp.
when car will not start, (state , what engine you have first)? 2.0L I4 or V6?
the first thing to check is .
is the gas tank above 1/4?
is there spark. on all 4 to 6 spark plugs.
are all fuses good.
does the CEL lamp glow key on, if not the ECU/PCM is dead and there will be no spark or fueling ever. but fuses can blow and disable ECU.

SOURCE: suzuki grand vitara 2000 model the engine light blinks

Take your rig.. drive it to a gas station.. fill the tank up with gas.. also fill 2 jugs of gasoline at the same time... put the jugs in the back of it.. now drive as far as you can until the rig runs out of gas.. then, take the two jugs of gas.. pour it all over the rig, inside and out.. now light it a-blaze, then walk to your nearest car dealer and buy a new car..

SOURCE: can't find the fuse box under the driver's side dash on my 2000 suzuki grand vitara. my radio/clock not working and dome light does not come on when the driver's side door is opened.

Its below the Dashboard, on the left side of your knee. You have to use a torch & locate it from under the Dashboard, Its roughly near to the Clutch Pedal.
Here, it looks like this: (The Black one is the Fuse box) ba18901.jpg

SOURCE: my grand vitara 54 plate. a orange engine aware

Had the same problem with my Grand Vitara XL7.
It was put on a computer to diagnose problem. Turned out to be a problem in the emmissions. sensor. Reason turned out to be that it is only driven gently and as it is a V6 2.7ltr engine, it needs to be driven with the revs going over 3000 occasionally.
We took it on a drive on a long straight road in 3rd gear only and kept it going none stop with revs going over 3000 for a distance of 5 miles. This cured it.
It was a build up of carbon or something like that, what we did had the effect of clearing it.Blowing out the blockage.
We did not do this lightly, we were advised to do it by the mechanic. He warned us that it might be a bit noisy and said if we did not fancy doing it he would do it for us.

Problem has never come back since.

Heater light flashing on 1997 vitara jeep not start

what country, which engine>? G16?
where is this light. try to be exact, (on the HVAC controls)
or in the dash speedo cluster?
and we'd need to know if it has an icon, ?
better post , a real photo of lamp.
did you overheat the engine (coolant gauge needle , on H)

as the dash lamps vary by every country a vitara is sold.
the operators guide (glovebox) is the way to know what a lamp means. (warnings) and is unique to your country! fact !

i see UK cars (we are USA here) have CAT overheat icons.
(we dont have that here)
and means just that. (engine too rich and misfiring or rich and exhaust cracks, sucking air ) causing CAT to OVERHEAT.

no start. lets work that now.
ok, key on, CEL glows. (check engine light ) must glow
does it.
does engine crank? fast?
if yes, is the IMMOblizer lamp (dash) happy? (oper, guide again)
if cel on , Immo happy
then it cranks fast ,do you have spark to all cylinders of unstated size engine?

our cars the USA OBD2 scan tools all work in 1997
but in say UK not. so ... that to changes diagnosis BIG TIME>.

2004 grand vitara will not start and solenoid will not click, Battery is fine.

Sounds like the ignition interlock at the transmission switch is out of adjustment or faulty. Bypass the key switch, at the starter, if it now cranks, it's in the interlock switch or the ignition switch.

Car konks out and check engine light come on.

The check engine light is because all check engine light codes are caused by components that affect emissions. It's not actually an engine problem, it's a problem with either your O2 sensor, MAF sensor, fuel/air ratio, pyrometer, or exhaust.

Cranks, but won't start

Could be the crank sensor is bad but If the check engine light does NOT come on when cranking at the times when it won't start, then your ECU is in need of repair. The engine will only start after the check engine light comes on and the ecu is what controls that. It's likely going bad, causing the delayed start problem typical of early 90's jeeps. Repair or replacement services for your jeep ECU are available on ebay.

My suzuki grand vitara is not starting after a roll over

No roll over switch on this model, pull the spark plugs and clean them, turn it over with the plugs out with rags over the motor to catch any oil. then put the plugs in and try it again, it won't take much oil on the plugs to stop it starting.

2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara cranks but won't start

Most likely your timing chain.
This is a major problem 99 -05 V6 GV.
The Timing chain tensioner failed.
When the chain breaks it destroys the engine.
Unfortunately is an "Interference" engine.
This and the rear main seal are the big problems with these cars.
