I got int he car this morning and everything was fine. It rained last night and the car was parked outside. After driving to work, I looked down and the floormats, and underneath the floormats were drenched in both the front and rear passanger side. I cannot find where the water came from as the no windows or sunroof was left open and it is only on that side on the floor (no seats were wet). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like the door rubbers , you can do a smoke test from inside your car , get a smoke test tablet put it into a secure tin and use it in the car shut up all windows and let it off then your see where the leaks are good luck and read all instructions first colin
There are a few possibilities.
Under the hood (usually on the passenger side), there are vent openings. If something under the hood (debris or a rag, etc) is blocking the water from draining properly, it can backup and drain into the air intake and onto the floor.
Also, examine the sunroof seal closely (outside car). If there is any damage, no matter how small it might look, it could be leaking. Since it is in both floor areas, this sounds like the source.
The water would run into the roof, down the cross members and to the floor. It happened in my father's station wagon. The floor kept getting wet when it rained and we found a small section of the roof seal which had come away from the metal. This was confirmed when drops of water leaked down the inside of the windshield from the headliner.
Check both of these areas for problems and you may find the culprit. If not, then check the door seal and the window seal where the window rolls into the door. These are other areas where a bad seal may be causing the leak.

if its got a sun roof check the drain pipe from that it may have come off

One thing... If your last 3 doors works fine it's mean that problem is only in your drivers side. In VW like nickalxjoe wrote is air pump. So there might be an air leaking which you can hear. So if you can hear from where air running out try to fix this first.

There is a known issue with the wiring harness in the doors. It's possible that the passenger door also has a bad harness (assuming they swapped out the one in the driver's door) Is that a correct assumption? It may still be related to your original problem too. I've heard of disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes to reset the electrical (door switches). You should def give that a try - it's free.
Also check out the forums at www.tdiclub.com - those guys know their VW TDI's...

My 2001 passat did the same thing. my leak was coming from the door panel. Open your door and use a water hose to simulate rain water running against your window. Water should run into door and drain out of several drain holes at the very bottom of your door. Check for water leaking from the bottom of your plastic door panel. The water runs down into the door and leaks through your inner door panel seal causing water to leak inside from the bottom of your door panel and run into the floorboard instead of draining out the water hole in the bottom of your door.

This sounds like a bad control or broken wire inside the door, you will need to remove the door panel and check for broken wires, also remove the controls and make sure all connectors are connected good and tight, this is where i would start also just check all of the fuses.
