So far, I've changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, and MAP sensor. I have fire going to my TPS and IAC, all injectors are firing, and I have spark. I can squirt fuel into the throttle body and it'll run until the gas runs out, then it dies. I was told by the local dealership to change the ignition cylinder housing that holds the Pass II device ($130), but that didnt work either, even after doing the (3) 10-minute intervals in the setup sequence. I'm running out of options and any help would be greatly appreciated----thanks!
Okay, number 1, people need to read your description of the problem before they start googling answers to put on here. With that said; a 1999 truck with the 5.3 liter was a new body style in that year. It DOES NOT HAVE A CHIP IN THE KEY. GM used the passlock sensor in the ignition lock cylinder. Failure of the sensor in the ignition lock cylinder can cause symptoms you're describing, but is also accompanied by a security light illuminated on the dash, and a diagnostic trouble code set in the Body Control Module, or BCM. Secondly, ignore any posts referring to diagnosing your distributor. The 5.3 liter engine uses 8 ignition coils- one mounted near each spark plug on the valve cover. THERE IS NO DISTRIBUTOR. Now, you say the engine runs when you spray fuel down the throttle body. That tells me your ignition system is working, the engine is timed correctly (valve timing), and you have enough compression to fire enough cylinders to make the engine run. Have you checked fuel pressure since doing the fuel pump? Did you correctly install the new electrical connector that should have come in the box with the new fuel pump? If you have good fuel pressure (roughly 55-60 psi when the pump cycles on), and it holds that pressure, the fuel system should also be okay. Verify your fuel pressure. I have also seen Mass Airflow Sensors (MAF) cause symptoms very similar to a failed fuel pump. If you unplug the MAF sensor (located at the air filter box), and the engine starts, you've found your problem. If it doesn't start...double check your fuel delivery. You've done a lot of good work. It sounds like a fuel delivery issue to me. If it runs on fuel you supply to the throttle body, the engine obviously has everything it needs to run except fuel. Oh....and be careful with the people trying to tell you that snake oil will fix everything.
1. I would check th crank sensor
2. The key may need to be recoded, the key is special it has a chip in it if you are using a regular key cut at home depot or some where it will turn the engine over but wont start the key has to have the chip it looks like a little metal thing at the head of the key you hold with your thumb.
3.Try with the windows up and the doors locked go to the driver side first and unlock the door with the key this will disarm the anti theft. Good luck
Had the same problem new pump, filter regulator etc. I had to replace pcm to fix my problem. check fuse block under dash by the peddles. also if your fuel pump relay is some what loose bend the prongs a little to make a tight fit and better conection

as I've told people before you:Ethanol Gas Syndrome(EGS). first; take out oxy sensor and clean end with Berkline 2+2(parts house). re-install. next; buy a can of SEAFOAM(parts house), and add to 1/2(at least)tank of PREMIUM gas(only). replace pcv valve.<p>
Let idle for 3-5 min(even if you have to keep foot on pedal), and then drive hard for 10 miles.<p>
When you get back, replace fuel filter.<p>
With EGS, the fuel starts to turn to a brow goop that gets in everything in your systems. It puts carbon on egr valve, int. and exh. valves, and the corn alcohol creates water in all the systems.<p>
As bad as yours is; you may have to add a can of SF at 500 miles. After that. add SF every 3-5000 miles to prevent this. And with cold weather ahead, it prevent line freeze up all winter long. DO NOT use HEET. It evaporates that it really doesn't help water issues. Good Luck(don't be suprised if your light comes on and you pull a p0300 code) just clean or replace oxy sensor. you've cured this thing. good luck

the reason the injectors stopped is because the motor is not running.this is a safety precaution built into the computer so the engine won`t flood.if the fuel pump is not working then you will have to check powers and grounds at the fuel pump connector by the gas tank to see if the unit is getting fed power and ground.someone will have to try to start the car while you check this out as there is a 2 second prime circuit if the car is not turning over.also this system uses the distributor to know that the engine is turning over to start.you may have a bad pickup coil in the distributor.this system also grounds the injectors through the ecm so you should have power to the injectors when the ignition is turned on,for your information.

Doesn't sound like you've considered spark. Sounds like you're losing spark somehow. You seem to know your way around a truck, so I don't have to explain every little thing. Just check all the ignition stuff, go through the distributor and coil and plugs and wires. If it's gettin fuel, its either a spark issue or air/vaccum issue. Hope this helps.
Have u checked the cadeletic converter. It can do funny things
