when the new motor was put in the dealership mechanic stated they did not know why the spedometer wasn't working. I'll get it hooked up to a computer and post what it tells me. I solved my problem. There is a cable that runs from the front of the vehicle to the back hub, it hugs the frame. After checking this it was discovered that someone had cut it. A quick repair of the wires and tada, everything worked again.I solved my problem. There is a cable that runs from the front of the vehicle to the back hub, it hugs the frame. You should have your vehicle scanned with OBDII.(on board diagnostics) . take it to a shop and tell them your engine light is on and they'll hook a computer to it and find out why

the speedo and odometer are both worked from the VSS ( (vehicle speed sensor)
check for the reason of metal on the sensor end
could have an internal problem that is not allowing the shifting down so have the transmission check out bat an accredited transmission shop
sounds like wiring to rear speed sensor in rear differential or speed sensor itself..check wiring and connector to speed sensor..if looks ok..remove sensor and check for any damage to end of sensor..if ok..i would replace sensor..might be able to get aftermarket,if not, dealer part..most likely cause of your problem..i have seen this before..i hope this helps
Hi, Autozone will scan your vehicle for free 1997 and newer vehicles. Your brake fluid being low will also make the brake light go on. Ihope this helped you out. Good luck, .....MIKE-
Sounds as though you've lost a grounding point to the firewall. Check the flat uncoated braided wire that runs from the engine block to the firewall and check it for integrity.Shoud be tight and clean. Secondly if you can get your hand up behind the instument cluster try to push the main harness group in with your fingers.
have you tried to replace the speed sensor in the rear end my 99 durango did basically the same thing speedo wasnt working right brake lights on dash check engine light on
is it the front or rear locking up? you really have to have this truck loaded (load valve under bed) before the back brakes come on and i think these are the same as my 1999 2500 where the rear is only abs, and not on the front..dumb design i know, but thats how it is...determining if its rear abs only and which axle is locking up will help pin point the problem...i put 100000 miles on my dodge since i got it in 2001 and i put 8 sets of pads on the front and just changed the rear lining and thats only because the rear wheel cylinder was leaking causing the rear brakes to lock up..
replace the left front wheel hub assy. with 4 wheel abs. The spedometer works off of the left front wheel sensor. It will fix the abs/brake light and the spedometer will start working
