Question about 2003 Pontiac Grand Am
I just had the heater core and head gasket replaced and the water pump and thermostat. The radiator was also flushed but about every 3 days the water and coolant just pours out of the overflow resrvior and the the car over heats in a minute. I'm a woman and at this point I don't know what to do or who to trust to fix this overheating once and for all
Sounds to me like maybe a fan is not operating properly. This could be the original problem that caused the bad head gasket to begin with. Have you heard the fan come on during the overheating?

Blown head gaskets can cause this also . Check the oil dipstick and oil filler cap for milky white color .

Are you sure you got all the air out of the cooling system? Air pockets are very common problem when you do any work to the cooling system. An air pocket will do what you discribe.

It is probably the problem. To make shure that need to change the gaskets, one of the symptoms use to be thet the temp rises when you are running at speed 50+ average, where is supposed that the car gets a lot of air due by the speed and nobody thinks that will be overheated.

What engine do you have? One noted problem with the 4 cylinder engines is the reliability that at some point the intake will crack. I went through all the same things when I bought my 93. Drove off the lot, started overheating, replaced the thermostat and still had the problem without moving from the driveway. Look all around the intake. Make sure car is full of coolant and have the engine running. Most likely you will see a small coolant leak on the backside by the firewall. These cars were known for this problem. By the way if this is the problem make sure you take it to a reputable mechanic, make sure you get a new one installed. I had a used one and had the car back in the shop the next day. It then sat there for 2 more weeks while the used car dealer and I had a "discussion".
