You are in limp mode for some reason. You need to have the computer scanned and see what codes are stored and fix the issue that is causing the limp mode.
good day. Your slk is currently in 'limp mode' that's why it's stuck in first gear. you shouyld have it checked by a mechanic to reset the codes and find the faults.
The Transmission Relay is in the Power Distribution Box. It's one of the 3 smaller identical relays underneath the row of 7 larger identical relays. It's the top one immediately below the larger relays. Between the Park Lamp(Larger Relay) & Fuel Pump (Smaller Relay).
Limp mode is when your car computer pick up a bad signal from one or more of your engine sensor's, limp mode is so you don't get stuck on the side of the road, have diag. done so they can pull code and check what's going on, hope this was very helpful.
it going into limp mode the most common problem is the air mass sensor it sends message to your ecu this is why it wont rev past 3000 the sensor is in the airfilter and intake pipe hope this helps
If the actual gear stick is hard to move you will find the linkages are stuck on something, if it moves freely and still doesnt change theres two things it could be, first is motor was incorrectly installed or second is the gearbox has gone into limp mode, limp mode is a factory set mode that keeps the car in 3rd gear for a 3 speed or 4th in a 4 speed, in the ba's i had this problem with my car, limp mode is only a safety measure to get you home and should be looked at immediatley.
