1998 Plymouth Neon--Hood Latch Repair

Hi there!  I was hoping someone could help me with this.  I have recently purchased a 1998 Plymouth Neon.  My problem is the hood latch.  It flops around, hanging loose and I havent a damn clue how to fix it.  This is my first Neon and it poses a challenge.  As I drive, the hood begins to move up as the wind flows to the car.
The latch still works, but I'm afraid I have no repair manual to consult.  If any of you have had this problem, I would appreciate the advice.  My email is [email protected]

It is the same procedure as replaceing the time belt. You have to put a jack under the oil pan, use wood on the jack. Take the bottom front motor bolt out. Next take the passenger side top motor mount off. You can then loosen the 4 bolts on the motor mount plate. You will hve to jack the motor up until the top 2 bolts come out. Then you will lower the motor until you can take the bottom bolts out. The plate is bulky. Change the timing belt while you have it apart. I call my 1999 Neon a car from hell to work on. Be patient and do not force.

Have you tried lubricating, or spraying mechanism where hood latches in with WD-40 or similar, to see if latch is obviously releasing & may be slightly seized. is the handle & cable that you pull to open the hood appear slack or sloppy ?

Hood will not release

You need to remove the black plastic mud guard from under the bumper, use a 10 or 12 mm socket with extention to reach the hood latch from under the car, un bolt the latch and lift the hood up to repair. Hope this helps.
