2008 dodge avenger spark plug location and socket size.

I wanna change the spark plugs on my 2008 dodge avenger. I just want to know where the plugs are on it and what size socket i need to use.

  • 2008+ Dodge Avenger 2.4L 4cyl.
  • Remove plastic cover on top of engine, just pull on each corner for it is friction fit.
  • Once removed you will see 4 black spark plug covers with one hex type screw holding each.
  • Remove Hex screw and place aside, pull upward to remove plug boot from plug.
  • To remove the plug, use a 5/8 socket with a 6" extension. Once plug has been turned out all the way and you cannot get the plug up and out of the hole, just press the plug boot back on the plug and pull it back up.
  • Gap and replace 4 plugs with the same or equavalent type,. Drop plug down the hole and use socket to align and tighten until just snug, then torque to manufactures specifications.

One question why are you changing the spark plugs on a 3 year old car? 14 mm thread diameter, 19 mm reach, 16mm hex size, resistor type for the 08 Avengers SE; 4Cyl 2.4L GAS, FI, VIN "K" and SXT; 4Cyl 2.4L GAS, FI, VIN "K"

Check your owners manuel for the under the hood diagram and it will show you where everything is under your hood

Plugs on these are supposed to go 100K miles before changing. Mine has 70K and there's no evidence of plug fouling at all. Check your MAF wire before blaming the plugs.

Spark plug socket dont fit dodge ram
I think your vehicle takes a 15mm or 16mm socket. Normal spark plug wrench will not work. Visit your local Parts Store for more information. Have them show you a replacement plug for your truck and see what socket fits it.

What is the spark plug gap for a 2008 dodge avenger with a 4 cylinder?
There should be a data plate on the radiator support or a decal on the under side of the hood that has the reccomened plug gap.

How to change 2008 avenger spark plugs?
The plenum needs to be removed from the top of the engine to remove the rear three plugs, it can be a bunch of work if you dont know what you're doing. The front three plugs are easy, i would suggest buying some good plugs so you dont need to change them very often.

It's spring activated. Look for a pulley at the end of a lever. That's the tensioner pulley. Put a wrench/socket on it and move it away from the belt. Use caution, as I stated, it's spring loaded/activated. That's how it keeps constant pressure on the serpentine belt. Check under the hood for a routing diagram for re-installation. Or draw a quick sketch.

Hope this helped. I wasn't more precise, as I don't know which engine/options you have in it.

They screw into the engine block. Open the hood and look for wires going to the block. Pull one wire away from the engine block. Below, is the spark plug.

The Spark plugs in your Avenger is good for 100,000 miles and you should not need to replace them unless there is a problem, which would be indicated by the Mill light on the dash. If you must, you can pick up the spark plugs at Auto Zone and they can give you the step by step instructions to replacing the spark plugs with common tools. Good luck. Note: It's common for the doge tech to reset the engine when doing a tune up to prevent any misfire that occur when new plugs are installed.
