Either end , but battery must be disconneted as air bag are dangerous,i find it easier to remove the air bag side which just pulls outallowing you to put air bag well out of the way.

My toyota hooter is not making contacts on the steering wheel

If you have airbags your spirel on your steering can be broken. It has a roled up flex pc inside that let the current flow from the hooter cover to the steering colum. On the older models they used a hooter pin that get worn and needs replacement.

FIX BMW X5 HOOTER SENSITIVE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS OR BRAKE

You should check the cabling, from the steering wheel, where you can press the hooter, till the hooter. I think one of the cables is blank. But if your not technical enough please visit a technician. Perhaps other cables are lose or bad too.

I need an exploded view picture of a VW Golg MK1 steering wheel. Especially the wiring of the hooter.

Go to www.vaglinks.com. You can download "Golf,Jetta_MKII_serviceManual.pdf". It has got all the d=info you need.

The horn works when i set the alarm but does not work from the steering wheel at all.

The alarm is connected directly to the hooter, but the steering has a neutral (earth) which is switched when you depress the pad. You must remove the pad and check the system, either it has a like ring/disk with a carbon brush or micro switches. but all that does is earth the neg side of the hooter.Maybe the wire is off somewhere between the hooter and the harness where it goes into the firewall.

Horn is not woorking on 2008 chevy 2008

first test for power at the horn using a test light if no power then its not the horn check the fuse if fuse is good your problem can only be the clock spring which is located underneath the steering wheel, remove the wheel and its right there replace it and you will have horn power again.

CAUTION These models covered are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS and refer to the precautions in the Chassis Electrical Section.

jj, here's the procedure:
turn ignition key to locked position and turn steering wheel to the left until the wheel is locked. Remove key.
While vehicle still on ground disconnect the steering column shaft coupler from the steering gear intermediate coupler. Remove the cotter key the nut and the pinch bolt.
Loosen wheel lug, raise vehicle support securely w/ jack stands, remove the wheels.
Raise the insulating wrap on the power steering return hose to expose the hose clamp. Remove the hose clamp and detach the hose, Drain ps fluid thru the hose.
Remove both tie rod ends from steering knuckles.
Remove the 2 bolts and loosen the 3rd attaching the anti-lock brakes Hydraulic control Unit (HCU) to the suspension cradle.
then rotate the HCU rearward to allow access to the cradle bolt and nut just forward of the hcu.
Remove the nuts and bolts attaching the cradle plate to the bottom of the front suspension cradle, then remove cradle plate from cradle.
Remove bracket attaching power steering fluid line to the front suspension cradle.
Detach ps.fluid pressure and return lines from the ps gear.
Remove the 3 bolts and nuts mounting the steering gear to the front suspension cradle.
Lower the steering gear from the suspension cradle enough to allow access to the intermediate coupler roll pin. Install a roll pin remover/installer tool (they always get u with that darn special tool, don't they?) or equivalent set up. Pull the roll pin out of the intermediate coupler. Separate the intermediate coupler from the shaft of the steering gear Remove the steering gear assembly from the suspension cradle. Well, it's too late to give the install procedure, but u seem to have it under control, so let me know if u need more info and how u make out! Merry Christmas!
