Things you will need Spark Plug Socket And Wrench of the correct size for your spark plugs
Basic Instructions. Step 1 Locate your spark plugs look for other obstructions besides your spark plug wires if you have any other obstructions you will need to remove them as well to gain access to your spark plugs. Step 2 Remove the spark plug wire for one single spark plug at a time. this will insure you will not replace the wrond spark plug wire to the incorrect spark plug, if not done this way you could change the firing order of your engine. Step 3 With your spark plug Socket and wrench rotate the spark plug in a counter clock wise direction for removing. Step 4 After you have removed your spark plug insert your new replacement spark Plug into your spark plug socket before inserting it into the correct location. spark plug sockets are made to hold on to the spark plug for easy removal and install. Step 5 insert your new spark plug, before you rotate your spark plug for tightening rotate the spark plug a 1 quarter turn in the counter clock wise direction, then start tightening the spark plug by rotating it in a clockwise direction This will insure you will not strip the threads. Step 6 Continue rotation your spark plug in the clock wise direction untill snug, then with just a lil more pressure tighten it up just a little more. be sure to not put to much force on the spark plug after it has been snug, you just have to apply a little more pressure but not to much that could cause it to break. Step 7 After tightening the spark plug replace the correct spark plug wire. then move on to the next spark plug and follow the same instructions.
if you have any other visiable obstructions preventing you access for replacing your spark plugs you will need instructions on how to remove them parts. i have just instructed you on how to remove and reinstall the spark plugs only.

If you changed an individual ignition coil based on a PO305 & that didn't resolve the issue, then either the code didn't help & you have a different coil bad or several
Put back the old coil on #5 & check codes again & walk a new coil until you get the bad one or more
If you have a shop put a scan tool on it-- use Mode #06 to check misfire counts
Sometimes that doesn't get a really hit & miss coil & your back to walking all those coils not replaced in the last couple years
You can buy a cheap spark tester at any auto parts store that connects either between the wire and plug or wire and coil/distributor. It is an in line connection with an enclosed bulb that will flash if you have spark. If you don't want to buy one you can remove the spark plug, replace the wire to it, then leave the connected spark plug near some exposed non-painted metal (like your exhaust manifold) and crank the engine. You will see a spark at the tip if you have it. You will need a second person to crank while you watch the plug.
as for the valve cover gaskets, if no oil leaks there ok. as for the plug wires, when replacing. do one wire at a time as not to get them on the wrong cylinders. dont forget to make sure gap is right on plugs before putting them in. good-day !
You will only have (1) bad COP Ignition Coil, at the most
The Spark Plugs are not an issue at all ,unless they are in the
motor over 60,000 miles or more than 3 years,& not the cause
of the misfires.
You can replace a coil yourself in 15 min
They cost $59.00 tops at the auto parts store
On a V8
Wells 5C1179
Wells (duralast/autozone) C1234 Both the same coil
On a V6 you can look on Wells web site or a lot of
internet sites
If you have a V6 & most L/S probably are & you have
to do the right side of the motor, then the upper intake has
to come off ,to do coils or plugs
I own a 2004 LS & wouldn't let anyone touch it
Very few people are good with L/S Misfires or most Fords
Some shops avoid them
There are several ways to look for misfires
You have to have scan tool software & know how
to use $ Mode 6 & have & use an oscilloscope
All testing has to be done on a road test with the
test equipment on the coils
Doubtfull many repair shops even know what I'm
referring to.
You can solve any coil issue yourself ,if you buy one
coil only & put it in a cyl with a misfire code
PO 301 thru PO306 or 8
If you don't get the bad coil, replace the old one &
continue to walk the new one
There are some real serious issues you will someday
face & you will need my help, as a dealer can't figure out
You have to use logic,& get your head around how these
systems work & loose the ford product additude & things go
as they would on any vehicle brand.
Don't even go near a dealer, waste of time & huge amounts
of money
Do it my way
Get involved & install a coil & go from there
