Tail lights work fine but no brake lights. Fuse keeps blowing whenever I replace the fuse.

During the day, no brake lights. At night, all lights function properly. Brake lights do not work. Fuse is a 10A but when I replace the fuse, as soon as I apply the brake, it blows out.

----- Three questions-----

Why use the vehicle-resolve the problem

Do not replace any fuse that blows, even once

Get a wiring diagram & trouble shoot the circuit
that blew the fuse

If that has worked for me for 50 years
I think that will help you & point you in the
right direction

Sounds good Peter but I'm not electrical savy and wouldn't know how to read a wiring diagram much less follow one properly. The lights worked perfectly since I bought the jeep and I have not added any aftermarket equipment since purchase so I cannot think of what the problem could be. I won't put another fuse in per your suggestion

All you have to do I guess is what you have done for years Give your money to a repair shop & hope for the best Keep in mind we choose what questions to answer or pass on & have to decide what the person wants & 99% of the time have no vehicle knowledge so feelings get hurt Soory

SOURCE: Brake light switch fuse keeps blowing

Hi .. First I would remove the lamps, and try the brakes, then try again with the wiring harness disconnected from the housing, to see if you can isolate the problem to the lamps, the housing, or the wiring. If it is the wiring , then you will have to trace the harness back toward the front of the car looking for any place where the insulation on the wire has been damaged .

Brake lights work but tail lights won't work with front lights which are needed at night on 2000 Chevy Malibu! When inspected, everything was fine until inspector changed my left tail light. Now tail...

The Tail lights and Instrument lights are usually on the same circuit so both will go out if the fuse for the circuit blows. Check for a blown fuse for this circuit and replace if out. If fuse continues to fail, check the tail light or side globes for a faulty globe and replace if necessary. Also check for any chafed wires that could be shorting to the body causing the fuse to blow.

Tail lights and dash lights out in 96 dodge ram. all other lights work. already replaced headlight switch. still no tail lights

does the fuse keep blowing ?? it is also on the same line as the cigarette lighter if the fuse is blowing check that there is nothing stuck in the lighter socket that is shorting it out. Could also be a bad ground wire not makeinig contact.

Dashboard and tail lights out on 97" Nissan Sentra

I took my pathfinder to U-HAUL and asked them to check the towing lights. There was a pinched wire by my tail light and they cut it and changed it out for me, it was $5. I am so glad that I didnt take it to Nissan. My second step was going to be getting a new dimmer switch..but the guy who worked on my car said that wouldnt be the problem. He also told me that replacing a fuse that kept blowing out was dangerous and after the first time to get it checked out. Learn something new every day!!

Brake light not working

First ensure the bulbs are fine.

Check and replace the fuse in your fuse box.

If it keeps blowing after replacing the brake lights fuse, then there is a short on the wires, you need to check wiring.

If fuse is ok and there is no brake light check wiring to the lights, there is a broken connection or an open wiring to the brake lights.

Note: brake lights are usually not dependent from tail lights, they have separate wiring.
