The switch for the backup lights is built into the neutral safety switch mounted on the transmission.

SOURCE: timing belt diagram 1997 kia sportage 4x4

My scanner isnt working, so i hope this can help you out some...On the left Camshaft..you will a stamp I and E...iI is for intake and E is for exhaust..The I should be up at 12 o'clock and the E should be at 4..you will also have marks on the timing plate behind the camshafts to help you line it up right...Now on the Right Camshaft you will have the same marks, but this time you want the E at 12 and the I at 7 o'clock..And the crankshaft should have a little notch on it, where you can line that up at 12 o'clock with the notch imprint that is on the plate for you..You may have to clean those areas, and use a light, so you can see them..I hope this helps you out..Goodluck...

The reversing lights are not working where is the switch on my kia sportage

part of the neutral safety switch. go to a dealer parts department and ask them to sell you a new switch and print you out a copy of the IPB for it.

My reverse lights and brake lights dont work on my 97 c1500. the signal work and when i turn on my headlights the tail lights come on but still no brake or reverse lights

It sounds like you have two separate switch problems, brake light switch located at the top of the brake pedal arm, loose or broke, and the back-up light switch located on transmission or linkage depending on transmission type. When asking questions always give as much info as possible.

I cant make the reverse lights work on my kia sportage 1997

there is alot of stuff that can do that from bad bulbs, rev switch, fuses.wireing {from 94 to about 2000 korea had a bad copper shortage it was expensive so all wires on cars were cut to just enough to reach were it needed to. well as time goes by all sorts of problems with wireing in kias popped up}so it could be any of the above but a pulled connector or a wire rubbed through would be my first thought

Yes it will turn on light. Replace exhaust manifold only if it is leaking. It could just be loose or damaged gasket or hole or crack pipe.
