Well, I too had my check engine light come on and P0711. Shifts are still very smooth. I just repaired a shifting problem (a little piece of plastic from the gear shift had fallen off and jammed the button on the side of the shifter). Anyway, I checked trans fluid level (okay) and tomorrow plan on replacing sensor tomorrow. My question is, where is the sensor? Some posts are saying it is inside trans others say it is on top or side of trans, accessible after removing air cleaner housing. Sensor is only about $20 on line. Can anyone tell me if I'm headed in the right direction? thanks

Your Sensors are losing ground tap into the ground for all sensors and run a new ground back to the battery negative :-" to ground all sensors.

The sensor sits above the trans filter.Replace.Easy to do by taking air claener assy off.

Hello DI Nichols.
The fluid temp sensor you replaced was the transmission temperature sensor?
If so, one of the leads to the sensor could be shorted to ground or possibly, but not likely, a bad PCM.
Trace the wires carefully for a chafed harness and repair as necessary.
This is a description of the code, just in case you have not had the opportunity to see it as yet.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The automatic TRANSAXLE fluid (ATF) temperature sensor is installed in
the Valve Body. This sensor uses a thermistor whose resistance changes
according to the temperature changes. The TCM supplies a 5V reference voltage to the sensor, and the output voltage
of the sensor changes when the ATF temperature varies. The automatic
TRANSAXLE fluid (ATF) temperature provides very important data for the
TCM's control of the Torque Converter Clutch, and is also used for many
other purposes.
DTC DESCRIPTION
This DTC code is set when the ATF temperature output voltage is lower
than a value generated by thermistor resistance, in a normal operating
range, for approximately 1 second or longer. The TCM regards the ATF temperature as fixed at a value of 80°C (176°F).
