Blower motor doesn't pump well even the fan switch on high

Hi FixYa friends, My problem is that the blower motor doesn't pump more air if it is set to driver and passenger vents, whether it is AC or heat, (it just works/fan accelerates when speed setting is 1 and 2 = very low air speed, higher fan speed seems to be ignored by the blower motor). But, when it is selected to the windows (defrost), the speed is really working and when I push it to higher speeds (low levels to high speed levels) all works fine, but.. just to the windows. The vent doors/actuator motors are working properly, control unit lights ok, filters ok, checked all stuff this month. Looking at forums I decided to change the blower resistor (hedgehog), did it, but the problem persists... Any idea what problem is this, please? I'm getting desperate! Best regards, Lorenah.

Sounds like blower bearings are dried out and will eventually lock up the blower..sometimes you can spray wd40 in the blower bearings and it will work fine for a while.. also check vacuum controls to the baffle dors in the ductwork..may have some leaks there.. should hear a slight hissing if really bad..repost findings

I will try to spray wd40 today. The vacuum controls to the baffle doors are working finea and there is no hissing. checked again few minutes ago... because almost all my car is disassembled in my garage :-P I will post more findings after the wd40! Thank you very much!!

My a/c (heater & Defrost) doesn't always work, could it be a fuse or the fan blower?

Check whether you might have bad connection or contact,or e ven bad switch.

Heater / air conditioner fan control doesn't engage fan. Previously, it only worked in high speed.

I would replace the blower motor resistor first then see if that corrects this. The resistor is located next to the blower motor under the dash.

Blower Motor or Resistor or Switch???

Remove the trim panel from under the passenger side of the dash. You should be able to see the lower motor and the connector. With the key on and the switch set to high wiggle the connector. If the blower motor starts to run faster and/or act abnormal when you wiggle the connector, replace the blower motor. This is a fairly common symptom and problem with these year full size gm's. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com! I have a tip on how to diagnose blower motors that don't work. It doesn't really apply to this situation but it may help you in the future. http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6571076-blower_motor_not_work

Hi, My fan won't come on so I can't get heat or cold air...I used to have to turn the knob hard to get it to come on... now it wont work at all.....could it be just a loose wire or a fuse?

You describe a common occurance with the manual type A/C control knob/switch. Also, the blower motor brushes are also a common issue. The notion it's wiring or fuse is not a common occurance. There's a couple of things you'll want to inspect/examine before you start throwing money at parts. First, key ON, blower switch on HIGH, RH side under the dash, locate the blower motor housing & slap it firmly with your hand. If the motor starts running, then the problem is in the blower motor itself (brushes, intermittent contact or NO contact). If the motor does not respond after this (shock test), rig yourself a 12 volt test light and back-probe the two-wire connector (black wire and red wire) to see if the light turns on when the blower speed switch/knob is on. If the light comes on, you know you have power and ground applied/available at the motor itself, but it isn't working/running - therefore its the blower motor itself. If the light DOESN'T come on, then the problem is probably in the blower motor switch itself. To access this switch, you'll need to remov the vertical console. Remove the ashtray. at the bottom of the ashtray opening/cavity, there are two phillip head screws - remove them and set them aside. This console snaps/clips into place and is simply popped out to gain access to the A/C control module. Using your test light, check for power to the switch (Go to www.hmaservice.com and register your vehicle by VIN #.. you'll then have access to wiring diagrams, shop manuals, service bulletins, campaigns, illustrations and procedures, etc.) If memory serves, the manual A/C control switch can be purchased separately at any Hyundai Dealership Parts Department.

My blower motor resistor keeps going out put a new motor in but still went out and its also very warm when you touch it

Hi,
The resistor block for A/C motor control is usually hot, that why it is place inside the blower box to have it cooled down by the air coming from the fan motor to the A/C and heater core.
Check your blower fuse, it might have a high amperage rather than the original 15 or 20 amps required capacity, that's why instead of the fuse to first to break up, the resistor burned down.
Hope that helps you out.

01 grand.prix ac fan switch only works on high. has a duel temp controller when you turn fan off the only way fan comes back on is to move the temp controller levers

Hi!!
When the Blower Motor Resistor (controls blower speeds) goes bad, the blower motor works only on HIGH SPEED. REPLACE IT.
BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR Removal & Installation
  • Disconnect negative battery cable.
  • Remove right lower instrument panel insulator panel.
  • Disconnect blower resistor connector located behind right side of dash.
  • Remove blower resistor screws and blower resistor.
To install, reverse removal procedure
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa!!

Vent fan only works when set to 4

Hi.....
On your Vehicle the problem for the FAN speed is NOT the FAN switch.
99.9 % of this problem on cars is the BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR.
The blower motor resistor give the speed to the Fan.
But on High speed the switch make a By pass of the switch using a Relay for the high speed.
The Blower motor resistor, is located Beside of the Blower motor On the passanger compartment.

If you replace the blower motor resistor you have 99.9% of this will solve your problem.

I'm a Mechanic.

I hope this help on your problem.
Thank you for use fixya...
