caution? what lamp, what does it say? exactly or the operator guide book state in the glove box? what Civic, there are 3 that year, Do you mean the CEL/SES check engine light.? well pull the diagostic fuse to see the codes stored. 1,2,3,4? (lots of honda's ,see your here) and full docs, too. did you do the 60k mile tune up yet(every 60k?) last one? if not why not?
your idle is compensating for poss air leak like vac or idle air motor, does it settle down as it warms up .if so then a poss coolant sensor is thinking that it is 50 below.hence a very rich mixture and a idle which will hunt.idle air motor maybe plugged with carbon.also disconect the battery for couple of mins.start and hold idle high about 2000 rpm for 5 mins if all above does not work.
YOU COULD BE RITE, ARE IT CAN BE MAP,OR AIR TEMPERTURE SENSOR OR OXYGEN SENSOR . IS THE CHECK ENGINE LITE COMING ON IF IT'S ONE OF THESE OR CATLYTIC CON. IT SHOULD BE THROWING CODE. INJECTOR'S MAYBE . IF ENGINE LITE ON PULL CODE'S FIRST.IDLE'S GOOD AFTER WARM?
intake manifold gaskets leaking. when engine warms up they re-seal- somewhat. if you change them yourself ( bunch of silicone type O-Rings) careful that the brittle plastic clips of fuel injector electrical connectors dont fall off and into the intake ports of engine.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
My car will not idle properly until after it is warmed up.(1995 Olds. Cutlass Supreme 3.4)
It wants to idle up and down between 1000 and and 2000 and will stall out if I don't keep it revved up at 2000 until it warms up.
Thank you and have a great day.
Betty
The engine Idle is adjusted by the PCM (power control module) If your having idle problem, cleaned the throttle body real good (just to make sure there wasn't a
problem there) then do a "IAC relearn" by unhooking the battery,
letting it sit for about 5 minutes, then hooked battery back up, let it
idle for 3 mins, put in gear and held it there for 3 mins, and then
neutral for 3 mins, then back into park. Go for a test drive and this should fix the problem.
When its warmed up, in park or in gear, RPMs are about 600-650 at warm
idle. At cold its about 850 or so, Good luck and thank you for using Fixya
i know this may sound stupid but if your battery is old or a little weak on this vehicle the idle air control solenoid will act speradicley hunting for were it should be and the vehicle will stall.replace battery
